Advice on a high level conjuring mummy?

This MuWz of Vehumet has focused on conjurations, ice magic and a little air and poison magic and cleared out the "normal" branches except the tomb with only temporary problems. Ice storm is now at excellent without using a lot of equipment (the staff of wizardry may still be necessary). I didn't try the tomb yet because most spells are fairly useless there and dispel undead is nowhere to be found. An excursion into Zot 1 lead to -6 permanent HP by a Orb of Fire near the entrance (lacking an amulet of resist mutation).

So I wonder how to develop him not while collecting the pandemonium and hell runes. Some more or less random options (the poison spells and some other stuff can be dumped to free 9+ spell slots plus the 9 slots left; poison cloud was however very usefull to kill of titans - maybe no longer an issue with ice storm).

* Further build up air magic. At about 18 Tornado should be castable at excellent.
* Train fire magic to a similar level as ice magic (13) to get Fire Storm at "excellent".
* Delve into Earth magic (althoug Air magic is at 9) and dump the air magic spells.
* Some more evocations (staff of channeling + good rods of destruction), fighting and trap detection would be usefull.
* Maye it would be worthwhile to bring shields from 5 to 15 to be able to switch from the buckler of reflection to a shield of reflection in the stash. That should hopefully greatly increase the number of reflected attacks.

To sum it up: I'm not sure about the right way to get groups of tough opponents with cold resistance under control. However, I'm not interested to delve into summoning or necromancy (at least not for summoning allies).

That hat is so great for a Mummy with its rF++... :D

Unfortunately I can't really give you any spellcasting advice cause I don't play casters. You can regain rotted HP with a wand of cure wounds if you can spare the charges.

Ah, I didn't know this. With 12 scrolls of recharging in the stash charges of the healing staff are expendable.

Ice Storm will work on undead, as will Throw Icicle. They may not be as efficient as Dispell Undead, but they will get the job done.

Oh, cool. I missed that information that only 40% of ice storm damage are resistable.

Still, going into the tomb was a bad idea. Without a ring of sustain abilities Int dropped from 26 to 12 halfway through level 2, and a mummy can not drink potions to restore it. I guess I'll have to take a rest in the Vestibule of Hell to restore the missing nine point (though Vehumet will not like that). Ice Storm doesn't work very good against the greater mummies anyway. Six castings are not enough to kill them with the low Int score. So it's Pandemonium next until I'l found the missing gear (rMut and sustain abilities).

What I did for the Greater Mummies on an Ice Storm spammer in Tomb was toss Orbs of Destruction at them between Ice Storms. They'll die much faster.
The best strategy most frequently overlooked by new players for surviving: not starting a fight to begin with.

Why not use the self-restoration ability? I use it on my mummies, even spellcasters. Also, how useful is Control Undead in the tomb?

I don't think it would be very usefull. There are way to many greater mummies to control half of them.

But I perfected Ice Storm first and got the four Pandemonium runes with it (slaying all the lords) and used the experience to bring Fire Storm to excellent. That allowed me to walk into Tomb 3 and burn all the mummies to ashes with a little help from Vehumet, haste, abjuration and channeling. Now I'm working on Tornado (Air magic is at 21 already).

Using wnads of random effects for HP restoration works fine, but maybe it's good only for undead? And the chance for a healing effect is just one in about eighteen, so you shouldn't expect many restored HP from a wand. BUt anyway better than nothing.

On both my IE wins I cleared tomb:3 with max ice enhancers and refrig, and dispel for anything that I had to pull upstairs. It felt more mana effective since ice storm couldn't hit half the stuff at the back, I could also use it without hitting myself for 40% irresistable in the face too.
