After losing two promising dudes to constriction, are there any pointers for how to deal with nagas and tentacled monstrosities?

Blinking seems a waste of good scrolls because they don't work all the time. Seems like the options are kill quickly, and if you are not killing quickly, try to break and run away.

Break and run is frustrating because ultimately, you have to run the whole cycle again.

Constrictors aren't a big deal for tanks (because of the kill) or super blasters (because of the long distance kill), but intermediate dudes are a pain (my deaths were the contest DgCj who had the tentacled monstrosity in a freezing cloud, and was shooting bolts of cold but couldn't kill fast enough, and a MfTm in ice form -- same deal).

Well you could try not getting meleed by things that are not faster than you if they will kill you.

Otherwise break constriction when you get constricted. I don't see why you assume you must then run away. You just want to break it so the damage stops happening, then you can resume killing whatever was constricting you.

The problem was that you were using cold damage against a monster that resists cold. The MfTm should've used blade hands and killed it in 3 turns while taking almost no damage.

Arggh. I hate tentacled monstrosities. Did BH against Naga, clearly wasn't watching the constriction clock.
