And that's because there's no sound.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup with Darklands music and sound effects (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-ymOA3ajgo) -- now that would be my cup of tea.

Don't be so conceited :P

But Crawl w/ sound could conceivably be awesome.

Desktop Dungeons had sound back before they sold out. It worked surprisingly well with a turn based game as it is.
I hope to hear the future of crawl someday.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. However, I could never get really far in Desktop Dungeons, because most of the time it felt more like doing math exercises than roleplaying. Nevertheless, kudos for DD. I'm sure most people here will find it quite an agreeable game.

In fact Desktop Dungeon is a (random) puzzle game, not a roguelike.

The roguelike with the best sounds so far is doomrl. It even have stereo sound, distance effect, nice music and original sounds from DOOM.

But if dungeon crawl get sounds someday, I want this music every time Sigmund is generated on the level.

ToME has sound, but it's basically five music tracks across the entire gigantic game with an explosion and a slashing sound as the only sound effects.

If Crawl ever gets sound and music, this should play on levels with Crazy Yuif. Maybe it tries too hard, but I'm guessing it's at least thematically appropriate.

How does ToME compare to Crawl? I've checked the website and it looks nice enough. I've tried other roguelikes but, for me, Crawl reigns supreme.

I would like to know too!
ToMe scored first in this online roguelike poll at the end of last year before DCSS. (but it was allowed to vote more than once and ToME just got a LOT of votes just in the last hours before end, before that it was head on head or slightly behind DCSS for weeks). Don't know how it play, I tried to play it two or three times but my first 'just for test'-character get's swarmed every time right on start. I just can't a find reason that motivates me to try it out seriously.
