Fighters memorising spells

The mechanism of reading scrolls to get Spellcasting:1 works fine, but my MDFi has found it impossible to memorise even a single spell. Therefore no chance to practice it. Is there a way to increase one's chance of memorisation success?

first thing, strip. armor impedes spellcasting quite well. also, quaff a potion of brilliance, if you have one. higher intelligence makes memorization easier, IIRC.
