Last time I had a 15 rune win was many years ago. Had a big break from crawl, but now back into it.
Hoping for some advice. Got myself into a somewhat foolish situation on lev 3 Elven Halls.

I tangled with my 4th deep elf blademaster (having trouble with them - they move so fast), and I read a teleport scroll to get away.
Ended up close to the final treasure room with a Deep Elf archer who took a shot on my already low health and almost killed me.
I need to escape right away because of my low health/mana.

My next action was quaffing a health pot and putting on my ring of evasion. (Had that ring swapped out with magic resist because I just finished killing elves that could banish).
My question is, for my next action should I -
1. Read another teleport scroll and hope I dont end up to the treasure room again (but the rest of lev 3 Elven halls is clear, naturally).
2. Focus on killing the Deep Elf archer first (one square too far for Throw Icicle.. will need to send Orb of destruction?.. loud!).

To get away I cant just run north and to the right because the deep elf blademaster is just around the corner (the one I teleported away from).
There are going to be more monsters appear on my screen in the next few turns, I am sure.. because the treasure room is right there.
I know its probably a simple decision to just read another teleport scroll and try and survive the next 3 turns for it to kick in. But that deep elf archer is a huge worry..should I try and kill him first?
Any other general advice on my progress or tips going forward is welcome. Thanks!

I know I am not on the latest version (22.1). I will upgrade crawl after I finish with this charater. The Tengu 20% bonus with evasion stacks with evasion gear on this version of crawl

In situations like this it's usually best to read Tele before trying to kill the enemy, unless you have good reason to think you can kill him in 1 turn (eg low health enemy + iceblast wand).
If you're in 1-shot range it's often safest to read Fog break LOS, then read Tele.

I haven't looked at this character in detail though.

Thanks. I read Fog. And then Teleport. But then had to teleport 2 times more because it kept teleporting me around next to the treasure room and mobs started to come out

Got out, and then carefully cleared the level. Didnt get much from the treasure there. Some more spells. But no spells I really need. Still on the lookout for The Book of Power for Iskenderun's Battlesphere.
But I did find a better evasion ring, and a Staff of Conjuration

Will do Vaults 1-4 next. And then the slime pits. I imagine I will need some pets soon to distract. Just picked up a butterflies book which is better than nothing. Not sure exactly how I should plan skill wise for the harder levels later.

You're going to badly run out of spell levels, unless you have a bunch of amnesia Scrolls available.
You're pretty close to having firestorm and glaciate. I'd pick firestorm for your next offense boost, possibly temporarily switching to robes (of archmagi/resistance) if that helps. You might want to train a bit of defence before going for an offense boost (as you are currently doing). Your defenses are rather undertrained.

Thanks for the feedback. What defenses are undertrained? What skills should I train for that? Fighting, Armor and Dodging? Didnt think I should go much higher with Armor in case I find a good artfifact robe later. I thought my Evasion was high enough I wouldnt need to pump dodging?
I have plenty of amensia scrolls (8) in my stash.

Yes the defensive skills are fighting, dodging, shield, ~armour, and ~stealth. I think it's usually suboptimal when some of your skills are above 20 and none of your defensive skills are above 15. I'm not certain which of fighting, dodging and shield is more important, but these 3 are more important than the other 2 (for this character). I expect your shield will be good
