HOFi So much easier then HuAM

Never got this far on my baby ranger, but the orc has now cleared everything to the point of going for the next rune.

First, suggests on what to change up before I start?

  Code:
http://crawl.akrasiac.org/rawdata/grinrain/grinrain.txt

Second, given I have never won, to I just grab the 3rd rune and run?

Third, Abyss or Vault 5?

PS: Fourth, how did I blow posting my stuff?

Vaults is the most straightforward
Use Heroism more and Finesse slightly less.
Don't train Heroism-boostable skills beyond 22.
You would benefit from training throwing. Oka energises very strongly with throwing. Javelins hit mindelay at 11+5 skill.

First, I wouldn't make any major changes seeing as you've managed to clear U:

Second, yes. If you're this close to your first win, there is really no reason why you should drop so close to your goal.

Third, I would advise the same as @petercordia - go for the V: rune. One thing I like to do for V:5 on a build like this (meaning no meganukes like Disaster area / Ignition) is to read teleport just before taking the downstairs from V:4, then read mapping with the first turn in V:5. If you land in a mostly walled off area, you're in a good spot: the fewer the enemies you fight at the start, the better.

Fourth, you placed a hyperlink inside code tags. You can place it in URL tags, or paste the full text contents inside code tags, which I think is what you wanted to do. If you need the syntax, just quote this post and you'll see the tags and literals as I've used them. Good luck!

Is there any place easier to get more exp before trying?

If I do V5, first quaff agl, might, resist, trigger hero, trigger finnesse, read teleport, drop down?

I don't think you would need more XP because your fighter is already past 21.

The one buff I wouldn't use before descending is Finesse (I'd use it in a hard fight at about 2/3 HP), other than that you're very much set.

Btw A shaft on V:4 can also be used instead of the first teleport scroll.

Survived the drop down, cleared the level, moved on to Zot. Died on level 2 of Zot, a negative rF just does not work well in Zot. Oh well, die and learn ...

Not sure what a Shaft is.

A shaft trap looks like a hole in the ground. (Or at least an artists impression thereof :P)
If you make a monster walk on top, it will be "shafted", which means it disappears and appears on a lower level. You can also shaft yourself with one of these by standing on top and pressing >. The effect of doing so is the same as triggering an exploration shaft trap, (which should have happened to you by now.)
