Should a wizard with beserkitis use a demonwhip^elec on D:9?

So I found a +2 demonwhip of elec on D:9 with a character I've been playing as a pure mage so far. I'm wondering how many players would train 12 whipping skill if they were in that situation.

There's actually more to it, because I'm playing a bcrawl Djinn. They have beserkitis 2 (which makes swinging a whip a bit risky) but compensate that by having a guaranteed period of brilliance after berserk rage ends (and never passing out). They also have Wild Magic 3, which was my reason for maximising Int and minimising ER (basically doing everything in my power to minimise the spell fail rates).

PS: would you advice sticking with the Steam Dragon Scales, or upgrading to Swamp Dragon Scales / Robe of Archmagi when those become available?

I didn't examine your dump very carefully, but my quick answer is that I'd probably train fighting to 12 and maces to either 6-9 and just wait and see how the game goes before committing to 12 in maces. This character is of course way more focused on int. I'd continue using the steam dragon armour into the unforeseeable future. Game changers would be if you find a great artefact or item with a lot of +STR on it, in which case then I might switch focus to higher maces, higher armour and use the swamp dragon armour. I'd recommend that you start pushing str up a bit anyhow, balance it out some with that super high int and go for the low hanging fruit of skills that are still < 12.

The character stupidly died after completing Lair and Orc, because I didn't realise I was slowed after a berserk rage. Tried to use swiftness to run away from a doubleheaded ogre :cry: if I want going to pay attention I probably shouldn't have used my whip.

I'll keep you advice in mind for future characters. Why would you recommend balancing out strength and int? I always thought that if you're wearing steam dragon armour Strength is mostly useless.

I waited with removing the amulet of innacuracy because magic missile and airstrike both have perfect accuracy. I took it off a bit later, when I got a cursed ring, before I started using lighting bolt.
