Your problem is that you don't use heroism and you don't use good spells. You should use heroism in every nontrivial fight. So like, fighting Mara would be an example of a nontrivial fight. You also train your skills as if you don't have heroism, for example you train bows to 16.8. Everything past 15 is wasted. All long blades training is also wasted, but that's not so important.

You also have a lot of good spells available that you didn't even learn. Summon Mana Viper alone would have killed Mara and it would have cost you less to get working than you wasted on long blades. You also have confuse, blink, passage of golubria, swiftness, summon butterflies, and regeneration unmemorized.
This is where mechanical excellence and one-thousand four-hundred horsepower pays off.

The key mistake here is fighting Mara. Mara in general shouldn't be engaged. If you do engage her, then do so by the stairs with a rF so you can go back up the stairs and reset the fight if an illusion of you is formed.

While using good spells is good advice, it is good that you are staying pretty focused on defenses + bows. I would agree with tealizard, that training bows past 15 is not important until you have nothing else you need to train. The main low level spells I would pick up are blink, swiftness, sticks to snakes (instead of summon butterflies), and regeneration. This requires little investment in skills with your current medium armour. The best mid ground spell would to train for later would be summon lightning spire. More intensive spells that could be trained (but is by no means necessary), would be deflect missiles, irradiate, and summon mana viper in that order.

The solution to your problem was to unwield you weapon when you encountered Mara and wait for the illusion to be created. You had ample fire resist so Mara wasn't the main threat. It was your own illusion which killed you. Had your illusion been created in this manner, it would have been unable to deal nearly as much damage as it did (and thus not kill you like it did). Since Mara blinks, you could keep resetting the fight with a set of stairs until you got the weak illusion created while still at or near full health, and then wielded your weapon and won the fight.

The skilling and spells didn't matter as much as tactical experience. 20/20 hindsight to have the perfect set of spells doesn't account for when the skills and spells you had may have saved your life in a different fight. You had 15 unused points to memorize spells, and it could be argued you should have had them spent, but seriously, your spell casting abilities and int weren't really that great anyways. What's even more amusing is that if you had more powerful spells well trained, your illusion would have used them on you. Part of your trouble was even just the spells you had, because your own illusion used slow on you. You were by far much more of a marksman, which was fine enough, and that's how you could have killed Mara.
