mimic portal - is there a real one?

I entered Orc:2, and got the message that there's a gauntlet on the level. Then I used a scroll of Magic Mapping to find the gauntlet, but the thing I walked into turned out to be a mimic.

Now my question is: is there guaranteed to be a real gauntlet portal somewhere on the level?
I'd expect there to be one, but I can't see anything on the map that could be a gauntlet portal.

No, mimics mimic the announcements as well, there's no reason a portal that's been mimicked would appear.
