Better Way to Look at Monsters?

So I know I can press "shift, x, [move cursor to monster], v" to read all about the wonderful fellows I'm about to murderize, but I'm wondering if there's a way to do so more quickly/with fewer keystrokes.

I decently lost a decent character because I thought "that weak ghost and his Kobpld buddies are no match for me." Turns out all his buddies had whips with really fun brands, like Pain, Electrocution and Distortion. I'm hoping you all can help me find an easier way to see what my foes are up to.

Re: Better Way to Look at Monsters?

When in X mode, you can use = to cycle between all visible monsters.

It's also sometimes quicker to use the generic monster lookup with ?/m. Eg to look up goblin I'd type ?/mgob<enter>.

Re: Better Way to Look at Monsters?

Probably Ctrl+x shows weapon brands too (I cannot test it at the moment).
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV
Overestimated: AC, GDS

Re: Better Way to Look at Monsters?

In my rcfile, I have a force_more set up for scary brands:

force_more_message += wielding.*of (distortion|chaos)

That message will cause the game to stop and force me to acknowledge the prompt any time a creature wielding a distortion/chaos brand enters view (and again when you hover over them when firing/examining, but I kind of like that, honestly.)
