GnMo^??? Archer

Wasn't planning on this build, but when you find Zephyr on D:4 you become an archer. This is one reason I love Gnolls. Now, I'm torn on what god to choose (not all gods are listed here...hadn't explored the temple yet. Got carried away blasting things to oblivion).

Oka -- Obvious choice. Tons of Ammo, stat boosting, plus the benefit of getting items to help out with other gear slots. Doesn't do anything for my spellcasting, though.

Ashen -- Another good choice. Chances are I can run around with Zephyr bound. This boost is permanent, so don't have to burn piety as with Oka (not that Heroism won't pay itself off/use minimal piety anyway). Get a number of other useful boons, and also the benefit of boosting my magical skills if I bind my jewelry.

Dith -- Already have decent stealth. So, I can always forgo boosts (arrrrgg) and instead go with stealth snipping. The shadow mimic would be nice with Zephyr, I'll say that.

Need help on the decision here. :D

Okawaru, because as a Gnoll with Zephyr, Heroism and Finesse are better than any divine-boosted spellcasting you could be doing instead.

I do agree, but on the other hand, sometimes auxillary spellcasting is nice. Then again, if I get something with the wizardry ego and maybe an INT boost I can still cast what I need (really looking for Portal Projectile, defensive spells, and a few AoE/tactical spells).

I'm not sure I'd want to bind a bow with ashenzari, then you can't use melee for popcorn and you might run into ammo problems. If you have some low level nuke like stone arrow or something you could use that for weak things, but still, I think Okawaru is in a pretty clear lead here. Dith has merit, but heroism and finesse are probably a good bit stronger than shadow arrows. You'll need heroism to reduce the bow's delay since you can't focus on bows until min delay. Granted the speed ego means it's fast no matter what, but more skill will help a lot too.

I think you overestimate wizardry and underestimate Gn. Just don't wear heavy armour and you will have Portal Projectile castable in Lair, you don't need it at 1%. Put bonus points into Int if you want to cast spells which depend on spell power.
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV
Overestimated: AC, GDS

The whole point of gnoll is you can swap to whatever you want whenever you want. Yes a +8 speed longbow is good enough for the entire game, but you will find other endgame weapons as you go, and some will be even better. Such as shield+demon weapon. Or shield + eveningstar/broad axe. Or battleaxe. Or all of those at various times in your game.

So you aren't an archer; you're just a gnoll who is temporarily wielding a bow because it is the best weapon floorgod has granted.

Anyway pick gozag because no matter what shops he offers and what shops you choose, you will be able to use almost anything he offers.
