Should I save the orc mines until I get max piety? Yes, good idea. Also the chance depends on XL (the higher XL the higher chance)

I just cleared two lair levels with these blinking a-holes just to get them to sorcerers, I don't think I want to kill them yet.

The reasons behind my single-line-joke is that wizards upgrade to sorcerers, who have decent damage\debuff abilities that works bad with other orcs around (as they block the line of fire) and they are on themselves very very fragile, so they will die sometime fast anyway while providing very little real support.

The best orc buddies you can have are orc warlord with 1h polearms + shield as they are quite durable and can deal a lot of damage. However, the more orcs you have, the less experience a single one get, the longer he need to upgrade to something better, the higher the probabilities he'll die miserably before that. Adding more orcs who will specialize in the wrong "tree" in the mix is only a way to worsen that.

Imo they aren't that terrible (Not terrible enough to waste that precious exp you just spent on them, anyways)

They aren't actually terrible but they're worse than warlords so it's better to nip it in the bud and not level wizards/priests in the first place. If you can leave them behind by telling them to wait/recalling other orcs, do that, if not either swap places with them when a dangerous monster is in front of you or steam them to death with a flame wand.

Once you have gotten them to be sorcerers/high priests the smart play is to just hold onto them if you're not too bothered by summon spam
