Decisions decisions

So, got a nice tidy little issue here, and i don't know what choice to do (IE: Got a Glaive, a spear, plate armour, and +2 ring mail of FR+)

  Code:
Hand Weapons
 a - a +0 spear (weapon)
 C - a glaive
Armour
 p - a +0 cloak (worn)
 q - a +0 leather armour of magic resistance
z - a +2 ring mail of fire resistance (worn)
 A - a +2 pair of gloves (worn)
 B - a pair of glowing boots
 D - a plate armour

For now, at time of post, i'm going to go with Glaive+Ring Mail and train up Armour (Fighting, Polearms, and Dodging seem eh alright for now)
EDIT: Any advice on next steps would be vunderbar

Re: Decisions decisions

If you want to win, I would suggest leaving runed doors closed.

Although, I suppose it is possible to try to identify the vaults in the game files and only open the ones that are relatively harmless or at least potentially rewarding. Needless to say, this is very tedious.

Re: Decisions decisions

All of the runed doors are vaults that can be memorized (spoilery), so you should open them and learn them on earlier characters who are probably going to die anyways.

Some notable runed vaults :

Early D:
A big rectangular room at the starting position that you can walk around, this is full of slimes and scorpions and other vermin. I think they put windows in it now at least, its basically an XP dump that you should remember to backtrack to when you can clear it without too much risk.

A narrow, zig zagging path with mushrooms leading to a runed door. This is crazy yiuf, a gnoll who is guaranteed to wear a cloak (sometimes magical) and wield a quarterstaff of chaos (very often +4). His hut often has one or more magical maces and flails, which explains why he uses a quarterstaff, because he is crazy. Definitely kill him if you need a cloak and you can avoid getting hit.

Middle D :

A small square room that contains 3x3 of space, with a runed door, placed in the center of a larger open area. This is the Xom death-trap of exploding sheep. Open the door and a flock of sheep with the sticky flame and inner flame status effects leap out and swarm the area. They soon explode and will easily kill most characters if you open the vault when you first find it and are hit. This vault is awful and should be removed, but Xom thinks it's hillarious.

Not a runed door, but a teleporter next to a large, sealed room with a window giving poor visibility. Its basically a death trap, come back later when you are OP to clear it for some consumables and a couple probably useless items to you now, or if you are feeling pretty strong, go for it now but its generally not worth the risk.

Lair :

A runed door on the last floor that is found in a large zig-zagging area often at the top of the edge of the floor with a lot of hell-hounds and those not-dragon fire worms or whatever... Its a fire dragon with some gold and maybe some items. Might even be two fire dragons sometimes. I dont know.

A runed door anywhere near the altar of slime. It's an azure slime or two, nothing inside. These can kill you fast if you are not prepared, almost no reason to open this unless you are ready and want the free XP.

Lair has two notable endings as well, that are essentially runed vaults but I cant remember if they have runed doors anymore or not. Both have a small maze in a forest before you get to a large building. In one ending, going into the building will lead to a large square room full of statues with a human wizard who quickly goes invisible usually. There is a door on the other side, that leads to a hell-themed area, complete with a pack of low- and mid-tier demons and an altar to Mahkleb, and a portal to Hell with a small stash of two or so sometimes useful items. The other ending has a bunch of elephant statues and elephants, a crappy statue that hides a treasure (you need LRD or digging or fireball to get it out, lame), and eventually a closed room with an anaconda. If you kill the anaconda, some of the statues come to life as dire elephants.
