You should finish lair, then spider nest or swamp, then vaults. Don't do depths now and absolutely not hell, they're too dangerous.
You don't have a good 1hander mace (you ideally want to rebrand a demon whip to holy scourge or use a eveningstar). Considering how strong is a Mi you may wait to find a better weapon to use TSO's blessing.
Hostile angels are always hostiles even when worshipping good gods.

Train a bit of evo, you have good evocables.

So I completed lair and spider (I think)
I found an artifact eveningstar in lair, it's currently better than my morningstar, so that's good.
I found a crystal plate armor (+2 enchantment) and something called a rune in spider, what does a rune do?
Should I use the crystal plate armor(+2) or should I use my plate armor(+7)?

You cannot re-brand the artifact evening star, unfortunately, so you should still wait for a better weapon to show up. You can make TSO brand only one weapon during the game.
For now I would stick with the +7 plate, because yoúr strength is not quite up to wearing the crystal plate, but its time will come. In the end you might also find some less strong, but better enchanted artifact armour with some resistances. Arnour decisions are often difficult.
The rune is a milestone in your crawl career. It takes most players a very long time to collect their first rune. You need a rune to enter the Vaults (entrance found somewhere on Dungeon 13-15). There is another rune in a different side branch of the Lair. If you collect that and the third rune you find in Vaults 5 (that one is very difficult!!!), you are entitled to enter the realm of Zot, where you find what you need to win this game. The entrance to Zot is in Depths 5.
If you don't mind getting your crawl experience spoiled, you may want to have a look at http://crawl.chaosforge.org/Walkthrough before you continue the game. It is a bit outdated, but most of the information is good and relevant.

I don't mind spoiling my experience, but I won't look at the walkthrough, just because I wanna do this without looking at the walkthrough.
I can see two other branches in the lair, the shoals and the slime pit. Currently in the shoals, was planning to enter the slime pit after.
Vault 5 sounds nasty.
(Also, this took me hella long as well, my morgue is filled with low level characters who died because of stupidity.)

Leave the Slime Pits alone for a very long time - they are more end-game or even post-end-game stuff. You'll find a rune in there, but not at your current development stage. Really, you don't need to go there at all for your first victory. Shoals is right, get your second rune from there!

Yes, the vaults are easier than the slime pits, with the exception of V5, which might be roughly on the same level. For both it is important to come well prepared, and both places you should only see just before entering Zot, if at all. So you want to clear V1-4, but leave V5 for later.
Demon whips are rare, so you cannot really count on finding one. The best chances you have in the depths, where some enemies use them against you, and you can pick them up. Indeed you have a good chance getting one in the Vestibule of Hell. You find an entry to the Vestibule on each of the five levels of the Depths, but you should not blunder in there too early. It is no problem to get out, except for some reason something pushes you off the stairs.
Sometimes you can also find a d-whip in the Vaults. Since you've been training maces and flails, using a scroll of acquirement, asking for a weapon, may also get you one.

Plus, can you post a new dump? Depending on the enchantment and brand of that eveningstar, you could have already found your end-game weapon: TSO's blessing means the weapon get +2 to the current enchantment level (up to +9) and rebranded to holy wrath. However please note that holy wrath brand is almost useless in a 3 rune games as it does nothing to 99% of enemies (it deals +75% damage against undead and demons).

Moreover, blessing a demon weapon is a bit different as it changes its base type - in case of a demon whip it changes to holy scourge.

Wow, your evening star is awesome. Nago is right, this is the weapon that gets you anywhere. If you do find a d-whip or a non-artifact eveningstar (no hurry for that) you can still have it blessed by TSO for unholy enemies, but this star you have is really your weapon for most of this game.

Depths usually has a demon whip. Vaults sometimes has one. They are uncommon but not entirely rare before that.

Pandemonium and certain hell branches have lots of demon whips, they are common weapons enemies spawn with, but they are post endgame content and not done in a 3 rune game.

The vestibule of hell often has a pack or two of monsters that spawns with demon weapons, but there is boss fight right inside the door.

There are two guaranteed top tier weapon spawns in the second floor of the elvish halls. Demon weapons will never spawn there, but sometimes an eveningstar will, which is just as good for your purposes. You can probably do that now if you have an MR+ item. The third floor of elf is super dangerous.

Honestly, if your artifact eveningstar is any sort of decent, you should not worry about searching for a new weapon and progress normally. A demon weapon will come in time, and a blessed weapon won't represent a significant upgrade unless you are fighting demons or undead. This doesn't really matter at the moment though, as a normal weapon works fine against them for now and your TSO abilities shred them anyway.

Sometimes you get better angels from summon angel. I think it's about 1 in 4 chance, but that is just a guess.

You can't bless that eveningstar. It is an artifact.

You can easilly finish a 3 rune game with that eveningstar.

That eveningstar is better than any weapon you could bless unless you are in hells, pan, tomb, crypt, or the abyss. That eveningstar is a perfectly good weapon in those zones anyway.

You can wait til you find a demon whip and bless it and use the resulting weapon as a demon/undead buster, but this of trivial value until you are in post endgame content.

There is a very good chance blessing a weapon will never be important at this point.

I did, I really did. I was surrounded by the guards and I couldn't get out (Those damn stairblockers), confusion stopped me from targeting the blockers and spamming cleansing fire.
Moral of the story- Chug potions of mutation until you get clarity.
I must say, my best two characters found an early amulet of gourumand, does that have anything to do with them doing well?

Vaults 5 is typically saved for after depths. It is significantly more difficult than vaults 1-4.
Potions of curing remove confusion from the player.

Gourmand is generally bad. At the end of the game you had this much perma-food:

Comestibles
f - 21 bread rations
g - 20 meat rations
l - 23 fruits
Q - 28 royal jellies

You could have stayed at full of higher for the rest of the game eating nothing but permafood and no chunks, which is the exact same benefit gourmand gives you. Thus, gourmand was functionally providing no benefit.
Melee fighters don't have much need of gourmand. Spellcasting costs often have hunger. Pure casters occasionally run into food issues, but this is rare.

No, amulet of gourmand is basically just convenient. Faith, regen, and reflection are better and maybe magic regen for blaster mages. Harm is probably better, too. (Did I forget any?)

You're doing great. The Shining One is mediocre (except in Tomb, Hells, and Pan). Try Okawaru, Trog, Gozag, Fedhas, Yred, ...

I would qualify that by stating that gourmand is useful for melee characters that berserk a lot, but that didn't happen in this game.
Well played, anyway! Just stay away from the difficult places next time, for as long as possible, and then you'll make it!

I've had great results with early Melee^TSO, especially since his irritating conduct was removed. I've never been sure if its because he is strong or I'm just getting lucky while playing him.

2* Divine Shield and halo accuracy makes for an clean early transition into 2h weapons without sacrificing durability. Angels are plenty strong when they arrive, which is often in Dungeon. The +2 enchant from bless weapon can be huge if taken early, or it can be sat on for a demon weapon. Having both options is pretty nice.

I'd be interested if other people had tried it recently, and to what effect. My experience is that it feels better than advertised.

I agree. Having permanent see invisible and corona helps with melee characters, and there are enough undead and imps even in the early game to gain some benefit from HP/MP recovery, although that matters less.

There are good guides out there to dealing with V:5 (duvessa posted a good one at some point); getting *away* from the opening party and fighting in better terrain is almost always the best thing to do, though (unless you're gonna kill everything with Tornado or Shatter or something).

Basically, you can probably take on a titan or an ancient lich 1v1. Taking on two titans and an ancient lich and a storm dragon and two deep elf annihilators and a demonologist at the same time is kinda dicey.

The technique that's worked best for me:

* Haste up
* Read ?tele
* Go downstairs
* Read ?mapping and look carefully at the map. Find some places where you'll be able to fight on good terms (chokepoints and such)
* Keep teleporting until you're near one of these places and have a reasonable path to get to one of those places
* Fight your way there
* Once you have a clear spot, bring monsters back to it and fight there
* Watch out for sentinels, having them wake everyone up and mark you makes life "interesting"
* It can be good to have two fight spots picked out in case everyone wakes up and you get marked
* Don't be afraid to use piety, consumables, and evokables, fights like this are what they're for

Instead of the stairs + initial teleport, you can take a hatch down. Sometimes you get lucky and don't wake anyone up that way. Sometimes there's a storm dragon and an ancient lich next to you.

You can also blink past the welcoming party and run down a hallway, the hallways aren't horrible places to fight (though they are also not super great). There's usually a better spot in at least one quadrant.

You can also also do a thing where you read ?immolation and kill a guard and have the rest of them explode. Some people really like to do that. The problem is, the vault guards are some of the least threatening monsters on the level and the explosions will wake up most of the map and draw monsters to the worst terrain on the map, which also doubles as your escape.

Confession: I personally often play better/faster/more confidently with gourmand. Not because it actually helps conserve food, but because it takes off a cognitive load of food management and encouraged less conservative use of spells and divine powers that are hunger-based. When I actually need to be in survival mode though I take off the silly gourmand amulet and wear something actually useful.

If you do it, leaving the area immediately afterwards is a very good plan.

A good place for the immolation trick is the end of Slime.
