Re: early versions

You can find binaries of truly ancient (pre-Stone Soup) versions of Crawl here: ftp://ftp.dungeoncrawl.org/

Look in the "dev" directory for 4.0, and the "final" directory for versions up to 3.3. Platform support is a bit of a grab-bag; most directories have a DOS version, but more recent ones have Windows in addition or instead; some have Mac builds (not sure if they're OS X or System 9 though); and a few have others such as Amiga and OS/2 (!)

(As for how ancient: the 4.0 builds in the "dev" directory go up to early 2003. The last "release" in the "final" directory, 3.30, is from early 1999 (though it looks like the 3.30f binary was a few years later); the earliest release, 1.0, is from 1997.
