If not, are there other areas of the game where this is also the case? Tartarus perhaps?

Yes, you get edible/animatable corpses in Slime. You typically get monsters which you get in other Lair branches, like nagas, ghost moths, harpies and hydras. You can also get stone giants, orcs, elves, humans etc., so I think it also draws monsters from elf/orc.
