SpEn after months of break.

So I'm planning to play DCSS again. I really like SpEn but I see there are many changes since 15.0. Could you please advice me what direction should I take? I was playing ^Kiku and ^Nemelex but I see these have changed a bit.

I remember even super high stealth skill wasn't enough for late end game branches after Elves. How about not using Stealth skill at all and pump more into Fighting and Dodging? I can handle early and mid game without stealth. Confusing is much more efficient.

BTW I remember that having tons of different wands was also useless in the late game even with high Evocations. So I also don't think it's worth it.

You should play the early game about the same as you used to. Sure Blade and Enslavement no longer exist. Tukima's dance gets a spellpower bonus and is pretty good. Training a fair amount of stealth is good because high stealth increases stabbing damage.

By and large, you can play SpEn of Kiku about the same as you did in 0.15, except that now zombies have a (fairly long) duration, after which they expire.

Nemelex is much changed: mostly it has been simplified a lot. Card power is now dependent on invo instead of evo.

Just read about SpEn^Dith and I'm going that way. With huge Stealth ofc.

I see there are no shields available for Spriggans anymore. That's sad.

Wait, bucklers don't work for spriggans anymore?

On god choice, you might have better luck with a god who helps you deal with things you can't stab, rather than one who makes more things into kebab fodder. Even Sp^Dith won't get a sneak stab on everyone.

Stealth was never intended to let you stab all enemies - just because you can stealth stab some of them, you still want your primary method of stabbing to be EH early on, and confuse a bit after that. Invis works if you find it for some things, ally distraction can also work, etc etc. Stealth is still very helpful since it determines stab damage, and it's very cheap to train. You probably don't need to max it - maybe ask someone who plays more stabbers, but I think you could leave it somewhere around level 15 and be fine.

Your main issue, once you get to mid game, is coming up with a plan to deal with things you won't be able to stab. Running away/being a ninja for all runes is possible, but I'd probably recommend going either melee or magic at some point. I've only won two spriggans because the low health bothers me a lot.

As far as I know Yermak always maxes Stealth on Sp really early and he is arguably the best Sp player. At least he has top score for SpEn, stealth 15 was reached at XL 13, stealth 22 at XL 17, stealth 25 at XL 19, stealth 27 at XL 20.

Top score comes from speedrunning, so it is a special case. Does Yermak max stealth when streaking games as well?
