Straight to Abyss:5

I had one of those late-stage characters doing pointless stuff like wield-identifying all the scythes of distortion he had hoarded together. After a few entertaining side effects I found myself staring at the Abyssal Rune, and was surprised to see I was on Abyss:5. I tried some more wield-identifying and got sent back to Abyss:5 again. But the regular portal to enter sends me to Abyss:1. I didn't see anything about an express bus on the wiki - what circumstances get you sent directly to the fifth level?

I think miscast banishment (distortion unwield, Zot traps) depth scales with character level, while the monster spell uses spellpower (or monster HD) to determine the depth.
