vaen of kiku advice.

I always feel bad making a new thread every time a try a new combo but I want to learn.

Anyways I decided to make a vaen, and its been a lot of fun. Questions that I have so far,

What are enchanters supposed do to when hexes become useless? Don't tell me those spriggans are wielding execution axes and knocking heads in. I've decided to branch into necromancy as a solution but there isn't really any kill dude spells, I've got simulacrum online ish... but losing 50% xp of every monster that is killled makes me wonder if its worth it? Agony is cool but quite expensive. I wish a had a spell that actually did damage. Also should I pain brand a short blade? is that heresy? I want to stab stuff but I also would love to be able to damage things late game.

Hexes don't actually become useless. Pain daggers are good. You can kill pretty much anything you want with deliver corpses + simulacrum, that includes Zot stuff, so don't worry about that.

The reason a pain brand works well on a short blade is because a short blade can swing quickly. Pain brand extra damage is based on your Necromancy skill, not the weapon type's base damage, so a more quickly-swinging weapon applies that extra damage more often. This does not mean, however, that slower, heavier weapons are bad for pain branding. It's an excellent brand no matter what you put it on. But I did want to explain why it is especially non-heretical for short blades.

Also, high hexes enable invisibility. That lets you take down effortlessly 3 of the 4 S-Branches, Elf without the end but with hall of blades, all draconians in Zot.

Then you ALSO get silence basically thrown in for free.

Very interesting, this is assuming that I find the second book of hexes then? Because ensorcelled hibernation isn't gonna last forever nor is confuse. Also I'm just gonna spam simulcrum when sneaking fails and see how that goes. @ Sprucery what do you mean that 50% exp loss does not matter? Like in the long run it doesn't matter? It seems pretty significant. Al

So yeah, you might cringe at the thought of getting only 50% exp from some big kill but there's still plenty enough exp in the game. And allies save you some consumables etc. which again makes you stronger.

Hexes combines well with any other school, and have utility all game.

Hexes works really well with the summon spells you have now. so Hexes + Summons is strong.
SoB and regen work really well at keeping you casting spells. Ideal to have for level 6-9 spells.
vampiric draining is a ususable panic button.

You already have a great combo on hand: corpse delivery and simulacrum. When you find Death Channel, you will have a potent combo attack.
