MiBe - get rid of amulet of faith?

My first game with trunk, I think, and I've enjoyed it quite a bit.

The +8 fustibalus of the Assorted Stars let me just basically tab through Vaults 1-4.

Advice sought:
1) Time to ditch the amulet of faith for Spirit? What's the downside? No other amulets around.
2) Armour - what to look for,
3) Next: Vaults 5 ? Elf 3? Depth 2?
4) More mut roulette?
5) If I want to dabble with extended, what next?

Re: MiBe - get rid of amulet of faith?

1) Faith is much better than spirit - just make sure you actually use trogs abilities generously. Faith means that many more weapons, Hand of Trog activations, Brothers in Arms etc.

2) _Any_ plate that has more +1 enchant. Preferably rF+, since Trogs hand (cf. 1) ) also gives Mr++. ctrl+f for plate&&brand

3) Depths:2, Elf 3, V:5 after you cleared depths 1-5. Then Zot:1-4.

4) LESS mut roulette, eg get rid of blurry/deformed body! Those are about the worst muts you can have for your character. If you get any of those blurry or deformed or frail or teleportitis, the answer is always (in .20) to quaff more !mut until they are gone.

5) Not much with haste spell and certain wands gone. Decide if you want to switch gods (I wouldnt, too many first time switchers die to Trog wrath), decide runes you want to get first. Usually slime+abyss, then either of Pan/Hell, last usually Tomb.

Re: MiBe - get rid of amulet of faith?

+1 on keeping faith; faith is great as long as you have a god for whom piety means something and on Trog it's very very strong. Bros solve almost any problem in a 3-rune game and even in extended they dish a lot of damage.

You didn't ask about this, but I'd rebrand the venom dtrident. I'd probably take any available brand other than chaos over venom. (I like chaos but it has its downsides.)

Also are you walking around with rF- in general? Don't wear that ring of ice unless you're fighting something with dangerous cold attacks.

Thanks for all the advice. The ring of ice was just temporary of course, just fought some ice dragons.

Re: MiBe - get rid of amulet of faith?

1. It's in my view that Faith is the best amulet for berserkers using 2-handed weapons. If you never find a reflection branded shield, then amulet of reflection is great for a shield user.

2. I think Gold Dragon armour for the extra res, and less penalty to EV over Crystal Plate. A +10 plate branded also works, and you get more EV out of it I think. Squeezing out as much EV as possible is important.

5. For extended I would want to max out the basic skills: Fight/Weapon/Armour/Dodge/Shield(if u use it) Experience tells me extended is a bit more of a pain with a 1-hander if it's not Holy Wraith of the strongest base types. Vampire Axe is surprisingly still useful in areas that still have susceptible foes like Pan. You can get by with a Ice Brand in some places. Always seem to need Anti-Magic to deal with bosses. And, I wind up using Faith amulet and Trog skills quite heavily.
