A question about saves

Hey there everybody! So I have a good character going, but I want to go do a DS or whatever just for the heck of it. So I save and quit. But when I go to start a new game it sends me straight back to my other character! Help please. Also, if this has a really simple answer that stupid me missed; sorry

If it makes any dif - windows 7
tiles version .9-b1-53 but I also noticed this with several older ones
