Weapon specialities. Why Maces/Flails have no bonus?

I started playing again after a long break and now I am trying to get an overview of the specialties of the different weapon types. I tried to make a list (note that I am not after details or which one is best, but more how do they affect the play style):

Short Blades: fast and bonus dmg on stabbing attacks // easy to find but weak in late game

Long Blades: riposte // good with or without shield

Axes: cleaving // two handed has best dmg output (?)

Maces&Flais: ??? // easy to find

Polearms: reaching

Staves: often some magic brand // most useful for casters

Unarmed: ??? // (auxillary attack do not benefit from UC skill)

Did I miss something? Did I get something wrong? Especially I wonder what is the speciality of Maces&Flais (other than beeing quite common)? I was a bit surprised to read that auxillary attacks do not benefit from the UC skill. Isnt Unarmed a bit underpowered?

UC's speciality is the synergy with transmutations and being a weapon that everyone has access to from turn 1, plus reaching it's min-delay at 27 skill.

Maces&Flails do have a speciality: Bigger base damage for less skill. Also, riposte doesn't trigger on block, so LB are technically better without shield, and it's like you forgot that quaterstaff and lajatang(i.e. the weapons you actually train Staves for) existed.
