Player ghost

Just lost a lvl 27 DE Cj on D3 during orb run. Had like firestorm and tornado online. Will my future characters just get nuked on D3 every so often until I can somehow manage to kill that ghost?

yes, one character is probably going to be nuked

a D:3 ghost will only ever be loaded once though, so the rest will be fine

You can make a ghostbuster Formicid and just shaft yourself till you reach D:15 (or however deep you want to go) and then ctrl-Q.

Or you can delete your ghost files, if you're playing locally.

It's silly, but player ghosts are silly as well, so there you go.

Whoah. I didn't realize that d:3 could only hold one ghost? So your new ghost will just overwrite the old one?

I guess if you were playing an undead character you could see the d:3 ghost more than once then.

I don't think Doesnt is saying that (if they are, then they're wrong).

What happens is, when a ghost gets loaded it gets deleted. As soon as D:3 generates with that ghost, that ghost is gone and won't appear in another game. The only way this ghost can come back in another game is if you die on its level, in which case your new ghost file will include both your new ghost and the old ghost. When you find multiple ghosts on a level, it means this happened multiple times in succession.

Ach, then I'm just another victim of the wiki. The idea that a strong ghost could only have a victim or two did seem fishy to me.

But you can always go to another level and quit to destroy a ghost, right?

In conclusion, player ghosts are weird.

I actually did mean that, although I went and researched a better source (the source code) and I was mistaken; any level can hold up to 27 ghosts.

Some ancient versions (maybe) capped the number of saved ghosts based on the depth, but it seems that no longer happens.

You don't have to go to another level (though it won't hurt either). Just quitting as soon as the ghost generates will suffice.

oh my god, quitting doesn't count as dying on the level so you can get rid of a horrible d:3 ghost by quitting as soon as you see it
