How much slaying could this be?

Seriously, is there a cap on how much slaying you can get?

Afaik there's no hard-coded limit, so feel free to put on 8 +6 rings of slaying on your octopode.

Of course there's some actual limit (items with max slaying in all slots etc.), now someone can calculate what that limit would be :)

So its said Octopodes, the greatest race of them all, have the highest number of slots. 8 rings+amulet+shield+hat+weapon comes out to 12. Weapon slot excluded we get 11x6 slaying=66. As weapon, by that point you probably want to use dagger of speed/quickblade, but for maximum slaying wield a fully upgraded Wyrmbane, giving us a whopping 84 slaying.

Conveniently, the unrandart Amulet of Rage has +6slaying nowadays, so you just need to find shield+hat +6slaying. And the rings of course.

It is indeed similar because it gives you +2 or +3 slaying depending on a spellpower.

no it doesn't that's not how infusion works
infusion adds 2 or 3 extra damage which is reduced by AC separately from the original attack
it's not like any amount of slaying

I am not sure it is a good idea to give player extra reason to check monster description. I mean I might be using a vampiric axe, why should I spend time to decide if casting Infusion is a good idea? I just will cast it anyway because I have MP and crawl is already quite long in real time units.

Yeah, when the spell was being introduced i complained about it not producing a damage message, the response was that it only drains mp if it actually does damage, so it was effectively communicated, and that an extra damage message would be too spammy
