I wouldn't have chosen qzlol, double so with a streak game.
Anyway ?fear and more D for me.
At least around 12ish isn't terrible worse than previous floor and certainly more manageable that situation right now.
D:13/14 can have some harsh vaults' entrance vault but they still may worth to be cleared especially if you avoid the dangerous part

Fear is pretty safe. Lair monsters have pretty low MR.
Assuming you want to do Lair and not D, I'd simply blink and read tele. The entry vault is harsh, but Lair is usually safer than deeper dungeon floors. Blinking to the right or left both seem fine to me.

With qzlol he's soon going to attract all the shit on the level after teleporting, without any safe space to retreat in case there are too many dangerous monsters or if he needs to rest. He could try to dig a kill hole right after teleport to increase largely his chances but it's impossible to know if that would be enough to survive and clear the level safely.
With any other God I'd have also suggest a teleport as an alternative.

I survived by blinking NE, using the snakes to block the oklob's LOF. I was lucky enough to end up in a corridor with no other monsters nearby, so I cast ozo's, summoned a bunch of ice beasts, and killed the monsters. Most of them were coldblooded so Freeze and SIB worked very well. Later I killed the oklob too with SIB spam.

I make it a rule to (almost) always take the first unwon altar on a non-zealot. Anyway I didn't find the noise so bad, it certainly wasn't attracting the whole level at least. Maybe it's because my piety was low. But yeah, doing D/Orc first was probably the better choice.

Qazlal was an objectively bad choice for you, but you should probably spend some xp on invocations so you can actually use her active abilities effectively. You already have enough piety to spam a large-AoE nuke for 3mp, which will outdamage anything you can do with your magic. As it is, most of what she's doing for you is killing off your own ice beasts with clouds.

Yeah, I have been doing that. How does upheaval scale with invo, though? I currently have ~10 levels in invo and I'm wondering if I should keep investing in the skill.

More invocations increases the damage and gives you a greater chance of getting more area covered. If there's a meaningful point of diminishing returns beyond the fact that high-level skills get crazy expensive, I haven't been able to detect it through normal play.

Didn't really have any problem up to that point, but Zot:5 had that asshole layout where both lungs were blocked by permanent tele traps. After a few close calls I got tired of this and decided to rush for the orb. Teled into one of the lungs, quaffed haste, and rushed for the orb chamber. Unfortunately by the time I got there my LOS was pretty much filled with orb guardians and I couldn't get to the orb. So I spammed disaster area, which killed the monsters... and DROWNED THE ORB IN FUCKING LAVA. There were like 10 OOFs after my ass and I was forced to tele away before the lava disappeared. I did get away, eventually, but at this point I was covered with bad mutations and more or less out of consumables. Died shortly afterwards as I stupidly tried to fight several tough monsters at once.
The lessen... Uh... Learn apportation I guess. I'd actually never died in Zot but I guess there's a first time for everything. Still, I'm 100% sure I would have won without those fucking tele traps.

You can repeatedly blink to get over the teleport trap. Doesn't matter that it's uncontrolled, you'll eventually clear it with high probability.

Sure, but you might get "trapped" on the other side if you get swarmed and fleeing thru the trap might place you to even worse position.
With 2 blocking teletraps I usually just yell near them, move back, and kill the dudes in relative safety. If repeated often enough, the remaining few can be wiped out while fetching the orb.

From what I understand, the solution involving blinking didn't occur to the OP; they thought that triggering the trap was necessary. I would want to avoid randomly teleporting on Zot:5 if I can help it, whatever the circumstances (except for a speedrun perhaps).

Some more comments on the character: since you weren't using high-level spells (the highest seems to be lvl 4), perhaps you could have upgraded to something heavier than a robe. It doesn't matter if Mf have bad armour aptitude, one can wear something like swamp dragon armour or perhaps even fire dragon armour and train a bit of armour. Game has plenty of XP by that point. With Qaz you want your defences to be as high as possible.

I agree that trying to blink over the trap is a lot safer than stepping on the trap, although the blink might still land on it.
But like you said as well, yelling and luring is the safest option, and Zot:5 is dangerous enough to avoid taking any unnecessary risks. And especially being so close to winning I'll play extra slow and safe. It's been a while since I last splatted there, and I'd rather not repeat the experience.

I have just checked in wizmode to be sure. I created a killing hole with 3 tiles and blink always landed me at the furthest tile (tried about 10 times).
Though when there was just a single available tile and it was adjacent, I did land at it sometimes (but more often I got "You feel jittery for a moment).

Meh. Most of the monsters were indeed reluctant to step on traps, and even if some of them got teled away Qazlal noise usually meant they would come back very fast. I think teleninjaing was the right call, it's just that I didn't learn apportation because I was a fucking idiot. With apportation I would almost certainly have won this game.

I did consider switching to troll leather armor but ultimately decided against it as I didn't like having exactly 1 pip of MR. And anything heavier was out of question, as they would block Ozo's armor.

you can be blinked onto an adjacent tile, the odds of that happening are just miniscule in the majority of situations. the way blink works, code wise is:
it picks a random location within max LOS range (this might not be in your actual LOS/an actual valid location), and keeps doing this until it finds a valid location (up to 300 tries.) for the first 150 tries it also ignores any location adjacent to you/your actual location, and it doesn't do anything if all 300 tries fail (the "you feel jittery." message) so to get blinked to an adjacent tile you need to fail 150 attempts to blink to a non-adjacent tile, then succeed at finding an adjacent tile within another 150 attempts

A lot of algorithms in Crawl work on the basis of "pick a random option, if it doesn't meet some conditions try again, after trying a few dozen/hundred times relax the conditions and try again". Blink, polymorph, acquirement, randart properties...

... a closed form version of blink (without any "iterate this many times" stuff) is not hard to write; the tricky thing is that now there's a particular probability distribution for successful -vs- failed blinks depending on the number of valid targets, and it's not super trivial to keep that the same. But I don't know if that distribution is the way it is because it's important that it be so, or just because that's how it was.
And the way it is right now *works* so it's probably only worth changing if it's making something demonstrably better...

While fear might be the better overall choice, I think I'd rather go up the stairs and use blink than blink and teleport on lair:1. Going up to a mostly cleared level and having space between you and 5 melee monsters should be enough to ensure you can get away/to a choke point and fight. Sure, you'll take a lot of damage going up the stairs, but it should be survivable. And with those five gone, reentering the lair should be relatively save - you might still stairdance some of the snakes when you return. Worst case if you take a lot of damage going up the stairs, after the blink you could additionally teleport, which would land you somewhere on a clear level, let you heal and hunt down the five later (or ignore them if they wander off somewhere).
So yeah fear is probably safer, but I'd probably stairdance by habit. Of course, I don't usually play characters in robes, so going up the stairs is a good bit safer in a ring or scale mail...
