Trog gifted me a weapon type I have 0 skill in...bug?

I'm playing a KoBe and I have 13 skill in SHORT blades, with 3 in maces that I started with, 4 unarmed, and no other melee skills. Trog's first weapon gift was an elven long sword of electrocution, which is a long blade. Is that supposed to happen? would it make any sense to start training long blades? I have a feeling I'd much rather just stick with short blades and hope for a quick blade, but this seemingly useless god gift kind of threw me for a loop. He doesn't seem as divine a being anymore

Not a bug.

Trog usually gifts stuff you have skills in, but occasionally gives completely off the wall stuff.

Alright, good to know. I'm training some long blades for now, but I think I might go back to short blades. I have a +3/+3 sabre of speed which is very strong, the electrocution weapons are nice but they are much slower.

He does it all the time, Okawaru too. As I read somewhere, only weapon acquirement gets you a guaranteed weapon on anything you have weapon skill over 8.

It's not quite that simple. But yes, scroll acquirement tries to never give you weapons you have very low skill in. God gifts are weighted towards high weapon skills, but the gods sometimes give other stuff too.
