Near-optimal skill build orders for several comb.

Hello, I'd like to share near-optimal (IMO) skill build orders for several famous combinations. Any questions are okay.

The calculations are based on the DCSS calculator and crawl fsim.


First line: D:1~D:11

Doesn't look very optimal to me, but it doesn't really matter because there's plenty of xp to gain so you can afford to make plenty of skilling mistakes.

I wouldn't call them near-optimal. They are good enough for new players because alternative approach (autotraining) is much worse. I can be wrong as usual of course.
For example, I see some issues with first line of most characters:

Axe 15 - Fig 6, Thr 6, Arm 6, Shi 6


Throwing as high as Fighting? Training Axes all the way to 15 while ignoring Fighting?

Pol 14 - Thr 4, Dod 10 - Inv 5 - Pol 18 - Fig 5, Thr 6, Dod 11


Throwing again? With Hepl and Polearms? Fig 5 after Polearms 18, Dodging 10 and Inv 5?

Axe 8 - Fig 4, Arm 4, Shi 6 - Inv 4 - Axe 12 - Fig 8, Arm 6, Shi 9 - Inv 8


This is close to optimal indeed. Except it should be mentioned than training Armour to 6 requires plate armour and at least 1 aux armour items. 6*11/22=3

Spl 5 - Conj 7 - Spl 9, Conj 10 - FIg 3, Dod 7, Stl 8 - Fire 10 - Shi 4 (buckler)


I would train Fighting/Dodging earlier than Spl 9, Conj 10. Not sure why to train Stealth after Conj 10. If I survive that long, I feel OP and don't train Stealth before preparation for extended.

Early shield is extremely bad with UC (losing 30%+ damage), especially buckler (does not give much defense).

Urarm 9 - Fig 4, Dod 2, Shi 3, Thr 3 - Unarm 12 - Inv 5 - Fig 6, Thr 6, Dod 2, Shi 4


There is some issue with having "Dod 2" twice. I like to get Slouch reliable with all Chei characters. More Dodging and Invo, less UC. Shield is not that great with Chei so it has low priority even with Tr.

LBl 9 (+heroism->scimitar) - Arm 3, Dod 4 - Inv 4 - Spl 3, Hex 2, Chm 8, Tloc 2 - LBl 12 - Fig 4, Arm 4, Dod 7 - Inv 9


Armour 3 does not give any AC in leather + 4 aux armour and using ring mail is a bad idea because of Spectral Weapon. I would train Fighting much earlier than Charms 8.

Axe 9 - Inv 6 - Axe 12 - Inv 9 - Fig 5, Arm 4, Shi 4 - Axe 16 - Inv 11 - Fig 7, Arm 5, Shi 5


Don't use shield that early, HO has great Axes aptitude and battleaxe is a more common item than a good 1h axe and a good shield.

Hex 8, Spl 5 - Stl 9, SBl 4, Dod 8 - Hex 10, Spl 7 - Inv 5


It does not make much sense to have Hex 8 when you cannot stab. You are Sp so you don't need high Hexes, you can spam EH until you are lucky and then you must be able to kill everything (including Hydra) with one attack. I train some 1-2 levels in Ice also.
Underestimated: cleaving, Deep Elf, Formicid, Vehumet, EV
Overestimated: AC, GDS
