Why is this good? What monsters does it spawn? Most abyssal monsters are not that strong, as imps/abominations/raiju/etc are a lot more common than ancient liches and such? Does it do any direct damage?

It's good because it kills dudes. It also can break into some vaults. Sometimes you get starcursed masses and things get paralyzed! Once killed Lom Lobon off-screen by Corruption, though it's kinda random. Still, cool ability.

Most abyssal monsters are actually very strong, against other monsters. They just seem weak because the player is much, much stronger than most monsters.

e: also you get it before lair most games and the abyss monsters are actually much stronger than every monster you fight at that point.

But unless you pump invo, your success rate for it pre lair will be terrible.

It's not only success rate, Invocation affects number and power of monsters (not sure about the latter though)

If only Lugonu had other pre-lair abilities that strongly reward training invo.....

It also can kill you.

If Corruption kills you you've done something really really wrong.

To OP: why don't you play an aybssal knight game with a species that has good invo apt like Ho/Ds, train invo up to 10 or higher when you get Banish, and then higher if need be once you get corruption. Anytime something scary can be banished, banish it. Anytime it can't, use Corruption. It will kill almost anything, and help a huge amount with anything it doesn't.

Tip: read ?teleport before using Corruption. Sometimes Corruption calls forth a silent spectre.

Sprucery covered one of my usual PSAs about corruption. The other is, don't use bend space when surrounded by neutral abyss monsters.

Please corrupt responsibly.

Why? I remember using it, no god wrath and no angry monsters triggered. Am I missing something?

Unless changed recently the damage bend space does will turn neutral enemies hostile. There are situations where that isn't a huge deal, but it should be avoided unless necessary.
