Re: Cblink?

I would think so, although it'll be expensive. Just focus exclusively on translocations for a while longer, maybe a bit more spellcasting as well (if spellcasting costs less than 25% of what translocations costs, train that). You could make things easier on yourself if you can find a source or two for wizardry, or some +int, or even some +str. I assume you don't want to take that armor off(I wouldn't), but that's another obvious way to help. Brilliance potions can be used to allow you to cast it a little early, and being able to use a potion of brilliance as a scroll of blinking is a good deal.

Of course, you don't need to get it castable to get your runes and win, but I suspect you already realize that having gotten so far without it. I think using all your XP to learn controlled blink is a bad investment, but then, you're a minotaur with a holy exec axe and 59 ac, you could win without spending any more XP.

Re: Cblink?

I wouldn't try to get a level 8 spell castable in GDA with 6 int.

Re: Cblink?

My recent KoHu hat Cblink at 3% with Int 8, IDA, subdued magic 1, tloc 27 and spellcasting 14. So I don't think you can get it to a reasonable failure rate and even if you do so, you won't until very, very late in the game... given Minotaurs apts, I'd rather focus on something like haste or abjuration, if you don't know where to spend all your xp...

I have lots of wand of hasteing charges, and aura of abjuration has not yet been created in my game.

basically just train whatever and win the game, you don't need to bother with spells on this sort of character

Found Aura of Abjuration in Mnoleg's realm, training for that now. At 28% fail.

Those fantastic Minotaur spellcasting aptitudes don't sway you at all, huh?

Re: Cblink?

I'm not convinced even learning anything beyond lv2 is worthwhile on mino in most situations. maybe regeneration because regeneration is so broadly useful

I already have axes/fighting/dodging/armour all at 27, and all god abilities at 1%. What else am I going to train?

Spell schools for lower level utility spells? It doesn't really matter. You could let all trainable skills hit max and just chill, honestly.

Re: Cblink?

I forgot cblink was level 8 now.

Yeah, aura of abjuration is a way better use for you XP. Almost anything else would be. But the question wasn't "is it a good idea", it was "can it be done". Also he can't learn regen because he's with TSO. But for a minotaur in extended, there's generally no problem learning level 6 spells. A level 7 spell would have been a stretch, but doable. Seeing that it's level 8, maybe it can't be done without some significant equipment changes.

Even in GDA? I can see doing it in plate or a medium dragon armour...

I think it's possible to cast lvl 9 spells in CPA.

Re: Cblink?

OK, wizmoded. With these stats in GDA and 27 armour, Haste is yellow at 16 charms/15 spellcasting and grey at 19 charms/15 spellcasting.

Even at 27 spellcasting and 27 air with two rings of wizardry and max vehumet piety, Tornado is still at 12% fail.

Re: Cblink?

Super simple, just get transloc to 20 and take off your armor when you want to use cblink
take it easy

Re: Cblink?

Heh, I guess the lesson is if you want to do extended with a minotaur, and want to cast high level spells in heavy armor, it's probably a decent idea to put a few stat ups into int.

19 charms/15 spellcasting is doable for extended, but it's a LOT of xp you could be spending elsewhere. Meanwhile swapping a couple points from dex into int would probably make quite a difference in XP required.

Out of curiousity, how much tloc and spellcasting would he need to cast cblink? It sounds like it's just on the edge of possible if tornado is still 12% with 27 skills and all that wizardry...

Pretty sure if you're wearing GDA strength will have a bigger effect on spell success than int will. Low int means your spellpower will be awful, but that doesn't affect cblink at all.

True, str helps to a point with heavy armors, although I'm not sure at 30 str and 6 int whether he'd get better returns out of int or str.

Having just finished a max skills run (courtesy of zig scumming) with a DD wearing GDA, I can safely say that increases to INT matters more than those to STR when you already have 30 STR and 30 INT and are trying to cast level 8 and 9 spells. Working off the fact that the OP has 30 STR but no where near as much INT, it's an obvious conclusion that increases to Int would help more.

That being said how often is a minotaur wearing GDA really gonna need cblink? It's a spell primarily used for running away. Just chug brilliance when you need it. There are other conveniences of the spell (such as crossing water, and quickly at that), but I'm sure you can manage without that. If you can get Haste online that's more important anyway since that will help you in literally every fight.

Edit: NVM about Haste. You said you had lots of Haste wand charges. My bad.
