Deep Elf High Priest Suicide?

A deep elf high priest shot hellfire at me while I was in melee range and killed itself. I thought they did not do that?

Evidently, the high priests and sorcerers of dungeon elf society are convinced that hellfiring oneself is a Great Idea, especially in corridors. Perhaps they have been tutored by trolling hellions. Perhaps those deep elves that do die gloriously via self-immolation are rewarded in the afterlife by being reborn *as* hellions, so that they can continue their favorite hobby all day long.

I can totally see the Elf Priest actually working as a targeter who has no idea of what is going to be launched, with snarky hellions back at base snorting not to laugh while he requests a sting attack in an adjacent square.
