Melee characters and mutators?

How do melee characters deal with mutators in the extended endgame? In a normal game, there are just oof, and there are usually enough cmut pots for them. However, neqoxecs, cacodemons, and shining eyes are common in the endgame. Casters can nuke them from afar, but how should melee characters deal with them?

Use some ranged attack: launcher, throwing, evocations, god (I used Upheaval of Qazlal, probably Destruction of Makhleb will work also). Neqoxecs don't see invisible.

Re: Melee characters and mutators?

But reliably killing them in one turn is difficult as Neqoxecs can have up to 44 health. Also, cacodemons and shining eyes can see invisible (though cacodemons have lots of spells and you can probably kill them before they mutate you).

Re: Melee characters and mutators?

You will get mutated, but you will probably also have some cure mutation potions so it's usually okay. Summon butterflies is pretty good at breaking mutators' line of sight, so is moving. TSO's summons can kill mutators for you, TSO being a popular postend melee good. Most common postend mutators are speed 10 so you can move away from them until you're in a corner where you can melee them easily (but cacos will dig through walls).

Especially phial of floods, imo. With good evo you can take off most of a shining eye/nex's HP and leave them surrounded by summons which block line of fire(often, anyways)

Re: Melee characters and mutators?

1. stealth. With good stealth they won't see you when they enter your LOS. You can walk away then. Won't work when you start to start to fight but until then it reduces the # of monster which will notice you.

2. wands (evo). To kill them (neqoxec) or to enslave nearby monster. In mnolegs Lair f.e. you can enslave all the ugly things (good %) - and tell them to kill the mutaters. You (the melee dude) will stay behind your enslaved ugly things.

3. ranged attacks with smite targeting. Needs good throwing and the low level spell portal projectile. Needs something to brake LOS (can be monster or 7.)

4. racial abilites (undead)

5. god abilities (ZIN)

6. become undead (necromut) for hybrids = melee chars who decided to go for some spells *early* and managed to get 1 high-level spell in 1 school.

7. Summons. Evo has many.

8. suck it up. Use cmut when a really bad mutation comes. Do one of the 2 zigs up to a level you can manage without getting more mutations to get a % to get more potions of cmut.
