Extended?

Will this character work for extended? I had to burn 5 cmut pots on orbs of fire, so I only have 2. I have not yet found the haste spell. What should I train? Necromancy for necromutation? Ice magic for glaciate? Dodge/fighting? If I do try extended, where should I start? The wiki guide suggests tomb, but the author of that also suggested training 8 skills at one at one point also, so I am not sure about his authority.

Re: Extended?

I don't know sh*t about extended but that looks like a very good character. With your Gauntlets of War you have the equivalent of a +14 Demon Whip of Electrocution (One of the best brands as far as I am aware), 4 pips of MR, 2 pips of fire/cold resistance, and a pip of negative energy resistance, and natural torment resistance. You also have FireStorm/Shatter which are both very powerful. I'd say go for it.

As far as skills go I don't think I would bother training an entire other school of magic just for glaciate. You already have shatter/firestorm/iron shot, which are very good spells. I think I would go for Fighting/Dodging but then again what do I know about the game?

Re: Extended?

You're right to be wary of wiki guides, they're fairly universally bad. This character should be able to do extended fine, although most people typically do zot after extended (for the cmut problem you listed above). As a gargoyle tomb is a bit easier compared to other classes, as torment hurts you less. No matter what, you're going to have some tactical challenges you're not used to yet. Find out what monsters can cause torment and damnation and try to limit their line of sight to you. Good luck.

Re: Extended?

I don't think you should go for necromutation, but Borgnjor's and death's door are good if you're looking to invest in necro. I also like regen spell, but it's not essential. Cblink is also good if you're prepared to invest substantially in translocations. More rN is nice to trivialise torment. but again is not essential. Sustain attributes is handy in tomb and hell. Really though, you are strong enough, so it just comes down to playing well, which just comes down to experience and skill. I would use a different amulet since you have lots of food. I really like spirit shield, especially on low hp races. Your big spells should be gaining you mana with Veh so the mana loss is even less of a concern than usual. I would save the hell branches till last. You can look into tomb and back out if it gets too real. Pan is fine too, but leaving is harder. Don't hesitate to use an abyss exit if necessary. Remember you don't have to fight the Pan/Hell lords (Cblink makes this trivial, but tactical hasting does a good job). Your main weakness is low hp, so more fighting is good. Watch out for random pan lords casting shatter (staying flying is a good idea).

Edit: a few levels of stealth is probably worth taking at this point (maybe up to 10).

Re: Extended?

I have a stealth manual. I'm probably going to lose a few characters to extended, but I want a 15 rune win eventually. Also, I have not yet found a book containing cblink.

Re: Extended?

You don't need to train for Glaciate. Shatter and Fire Storm are more than enough L9 spells to finish Extended.

I'd train defenses, probably -- fighting, dodging, stealth, maybe a bit of armour. If you have access to good translocation spells I might train for those -- or pick up a few levels to boost Apportation's power. It's nice if you get runes on your first try. If you have a book with Haste in it, that might be worth training (though you have the wand and 7 recharging scrolls so yeah, that's a lot of haste already)

If you type =i, you can assign your dwhip to 'a' and your staff of earth to 'b' and then switch between them with the ' key.

Somewhere, KoboldLord (or crate?) has a good guide to extended; here's my take. Slime is mostly like more dungeon, except with slimes. TRJ is nasty if you fight her unprepared, kind of a pushover if you approach her 1v1 in the center of Slime with summons to tank her spawns; there's the scroll of immolation trick, too. Or Fire Storm which will honestly also work just fine.

In Pan and Hells, you really don't want to fight stuff. Dive to levels with runes. You'll still wind up fighting stuff and that's OK (there's a boatload of XP there) but you can't clear the levels in any meaningful way so don't try. In Pan, take the first portal you find unless there's a rune; it'll warn you if there's a rune there. You'll very likely stumble on the demonic rune as you go. Pan lords range from "total pushover" to "oh shit oh shit" in difficulty; they're random. You'll get dropped in random spots, some of which can be really horrible, so be prepared. If you get more buffs, cast 'em before taking the portal.

In Hells, dive the first staircase you find; hell effects suck and they're frequent. Mapping is good on end levels. Regen is nice if you have it (especially at decent power) so you can rest less. Killing the bosses is not usually worth the effort, grab the rune and go.

In all the demonic branches, you go from "this is fine" to "dead" in shockingly few turns. You kind of need to get a feel for this, but torment (not so bad for Gr) and damnation (terrible for everyone) need to be taken seriously.

In Abyss, keep running. Head to A:3 and run and run and run until you find something that looks intentional and the rune is probably there. Generally, teleporting is better than fighting stuff. You've been here; we all have.

Tomb, I haven't visited in a long time; the monster set is more varied but I think the traditional "take it slow, fight 1v1 as much as possible" approach will help. Shatter (or passwall) gives you some kind of trick to skip some of it, but I don't know this trick. Mummies die to shatter just great; however! Death curses can overwhelm you if you take down a bunch of big mummies at once.

Re: Extended?

I did slime and abyss before zot.

Edit: I started tomb. I cleared the first floor, then used shatter to break into the hall of greater mummies. My rN+++ and sustAtt ring stopped most of their death curses, but one of them drained my strength by 3, and I have only managed to get 1 point back so far.

Passwall doesn't work in Tomb, you probably meant LRD. The trick is to skip the second half of Tomb:1 by breaking walls on Tomb:2. People without access to these Earth spells just use teleport for that. It is theoretically possible to Shatter your way to missing downstairs on Tomb:1 and skip most of the second floor but that's too risky to recommend (too many mummies you'd need to kill/ignore).

Just finished tomb. FIre stormed the mummies.
Edit: Where is the guide? I google searched for "dcss KoboldLord extended" and "dcss crate extended" but did not find it. Also, should I try Pan or Hells first? If hells, then which one?

Huh, didn't realize shatter still did extra damage to Gr. Shatter is mean.

From your end, remember that the fiends all resist shatter, but a fiend alone is a lot easier to deal with than a fiend and buddies.

Re: Extended?

I got the demonic rune of zot.

Edit: Should I just try to ascend this character with 7 runes? I have no source of channeling (no staff or ball of energy).

Edit: Never mind, found a crystal ball of energy.
