Silly question: Slow + Carrying the Orb

Would having the Slow effect as well as carrying the Orb make reading a scroll of teleport and actually teleporting take roughly 20 Turns? more? Less?

Re: Silly question: Slow + Carrying the Orb

Reading the scroll is slowed down (takes 1.5 turns instead of 1) but the teleportation delay is just as long as usual with the Orb. That's 6 + 1d3 + 1d5 turns (11 on average) if you believe the learndb entry (which still mentions cTele).

Re: Silly question: Slow + Carrying the Orb

hmm ok

What about something like "slowed, very slow" in the @: list? Or does that "very slow" refer to something like swing speed at the time?

Re: Silly question: Slow + Carrying the Orb

"Slowed" is the Slow status effect, "very slow" is your current movement speed.

If you're slowed, you will take fewer actions before the teleport goes off, but the lich next to you will get the same number of turns.

Re: Silly question: Slow + Carrying the Orb

The answer to the question is mostly no but slightly yes. The time before you teleport is measured in aut, and after each action you take that timer decrements by the length of your action and monsters get an amount of energy to use to act based on the length of your action. So bring slow won't change the amount of aut that will pass before your teleport kicks in, but it will change the size of the chunk of auts that pass after each. If the timing works out just right, the chunk size could be big enough to trigger the teleport before your foes get energy, exposing you to fewer total attacks.

The ideal example is worshipping Chei and stepping into shallow water as a naga while brainless to trigger a normal teleport. The normal teleport takes 30-60 aut to kick in iirc, but the action I described takes more than 60 aut by itself, making your teleport kick in before any foes react. Just hope you don't teleport 2 tiles away.

OK I think I understand.

Being slow really doesn't affect the time before you actually teleport. However monsters get more actions than the player due to the slowed effect. But it's really the same number of actions for the monsters, the player just has less.

It's like breadswinging but better.

In 0.17 you'd even benefit from reduced hunger!

Being brainless as a Naga of Chei sounds weird!

Re: Silly question: Slow + Carrying the Orb

There seem to be different ideas regarding the definition of ideal.
