It says that polearm weapons "can be evoked to extend its reach".
Does it means that Evocation skill is used for that maneuver?

I doubt that Evocation has anything to do with purely combat abilities, but specifically the word "evoke" keeps bugging me.

The only thing reaching ability of polearms has in common with evokables is the use of 'v' key.

you can use v to target things two tiles away specifically. It does not rely on the evocations skills or anything like that.

you can use v to target things adjacent to you as well, as an alternative to ctrl+direction (but only with polearms because other weapons do not support this feature)

Wands of heal wounds and digging are also "evoked" despite not scaling with evocations skill.

(Well that's not absolutely true. Elyvilon worshipers can target enemies with /HW to pacify them and this effect scales with invo.)
