Gh auto-eating

Dear Tavern,

Auto-eating while auto-exploring and resting is generally good. Unfortunately ghouls interact with it in a way that's not always best.

Ghouls automatically consume chunks when below hungry and also when suffering from rot. All chunks are consumed as long as a single point of rot remains.

The problem is that chunks are also good for healing up quickly. In many cases (in Pan/Hell/Abyss especially) it's good to carry a few chunks instead of using them instantly to cure rot. That way it's possible to recover quickly from the next fight without using any valuable resources. Unfortunately the greedy auto-eating keeps wasting good chunks. What a sad waste of food.

Are there any options that can be switched to change that behaviour?

Yours, etc.

Re: Gh auto-eating

There used to be an option for auto_eat to make ghouls work. It was removed with rotten chunks, so I made ghouls work by default (seriously it was so annoying to have to manually eat with them). My view is that if you care about doing these things optimally, you would not have auto_eat on in the first place.

I would suggest that ghouls regain an rc option for this.

Re: Gh auto-eating

If you're in an area so dangerous you need to save every last chunk for possible healing, it's probably a good idea to not be using autoexplore anyway. In abyss I never autoexplore, in hell rarely, and I guess sometimes in pan.

I somewhat agree, but I usually auto-explore in Pan/Hell and often Abyss, unless I feel extremely weak. Unfortunately even auto-traveling (like between stairs in Hell) has the chunk wasting behaviour. And walking manually between stairs is pretty poor.

Re: Gh auto-eating

You can just add

: if you.race() == "Ghoul" then
auto_eat_chunks = false
: end

to your rc file.
