How do I deal with this situation? At least I have my =oRC on.

The staircase is rather far away (17 tiles through a twisty forest), so that's not really an option unless I use haste. Would !oHaste save my dwarven ass, or no?

Do you think I could defeat him with some buffs and trog-summons?

Re: A bit of a fix (DDBe, lair:1, fannar)

You could probably beat him unbuffed without bro's, although I wouldn't recommend it. Also, you are probably better off taking level up points in dex at this point.

Re: A bit of a fix (DDBe, lair:1, fannar)

Fannar isn't that dangerous if you have cold resist, in my experience. Especially with a berserker. Berserk or a single bro-in-arms would probably be enough, summon two if you wanna be really safe. It's incredible how much stronger monsters a berserking Trog-lodyte with a couple BiAs can defeat.
If I play online, I do so under the screenname Marenglen.

You don't want to use berserk because Fannar has blink.

You are a Deep Dwarf of Trog. You have Maxwell's. You have rC. Just hold down tab until Fannar dies, or summon a brother if you want to.

I'd probably bro up.

Also, enchant the cloak and boots. Not while you have a unique onscreen, of course.

Kudos for thinking ahead. Usually in these posts the character is down to about 25% health and is just a turn or two from dying; this is a good point at which to make the fight or flight decision.

Would it be useful to throw a book under his feet and ignite it?

If you have books, that is what they are for when you worship trog.
TLDR;yes.

Woot, I made it! It was rather tricky, as he kept summoning ice beasts, but with a book, a berserk polar bear, and a quick berserk at the end to finish him off, I managed to slay Fennar.

Thanks everybody for the great advice!

In this particular case, Fannar has blink so not only will he not necessarily stay parked on the fire, but the fire might restrict your movement once he's blinked. So books aren't quite as awesome in this case.

Edit: Also, congrats on surviving!

The throwing the book at them then burning it is the ultimate trog secret technique. It's even better if you have enough slaying to kill them with the book!

FR: When following trog, books can be quivered normally as ammo

Given my stats and equipment, do you think I could survive through Lair:8? (I know not to even look at any of the S:1's - Shoals can be especially awful when you step in.)

Yes, but you'll have to be careful with hydras, your weapon will make them stronger and more dangerous, and you don't have enough wand power nor the throwing skill to safely kill them with ranged attacks, probably the best bet in your current situation is to avoid them, if you run into a situation where you can't safely avoid them, then probably better to back up to the dungeon, or if you need to, summon bro's to kill them. Make sure to try to have the hydra follow *past* your summon, as hydras take out summoned bros pretty quickly if they try to tank, wheras their hasted movement means even if the hydra is moving away from the summon, the summon will get free shots on the hydra's back as they walk away towards you. While brother's in arms is a very effective way to deal with hydras, if you can safely avoid them entirely you're probably better off saving the piety.

Lair:8 only has a small difficulty increase over the rest of the lair. Personally, I've never found I was unable to handle Lair:8 if I could handle Lair:7, however some of the vaults do have some creatures that you don't see in the rest of the lair, so if you don't know how to handle them, they could be more dangerous.

Re: A bit of a fix (DDBe, lair:1, fannar)

Note that you have a wand of polymorph, and that hydras are really bad things to use it on, so don't do that. You can pretty easily get things like storm dragons and then you have problems. (Back to your original situation, trying to polymorph Fannar would have been an OK idea, though.)

Longer-term, I'd invest in a ranged attack (and I would choose Throwing). Even more than other species, DDs want to hurt monsters when they can't hurt you.
