How does Zin work- No appreciative audience

This is my first time ever trying Zin (faded altar) and I'm immensely confused. I tried to Recite against Grinder, but it said there was no appreciative audience. Shouldn't it work on demons?

Examine Grinder with xv. Is he too strong to be recited?

How high's your invo? Recite works better the higher you've pumped it: at 5 you can confuse dudes, 10 blind 'em, and 15 or so, smite them dead!

Never heard of this "no appreciative audience" business, however. Should've said 'you read from the book of anathema' or something. Damn dev team.
