Lajatang Shield Penalty?

I'm playing stable on linux, 0.17.0.

Wielding a lajatang (of speed, if that's relevant) with a VSGl of Ru. Staves at 12.4.

@ gives "Your attack speed is quite fast (but will be slowed by your insufficient speed skill)"

Ctrl-attacks are mostly .5's and .6's, an occasional .4.

1. Does the exotic lajatang require some degree of shield training to be used to its fullest potential? (Currently at 7.6 Shields)
2. If not, and this is therefore a bug, is it only 'textual', in that it displays inaccurate information, or is it 'mechanical', that is, actually slows my attack rate?

You just need more Staves skill to get a lajatang to min delay. For normal lajatangs the min delay is 0.7, and speed drops that by 1/3. (so randomly 0.4 and 0.5)

You need 14 staves for min delay. Speed changes delay after the skill calcs. Get 14 staves ASAP. A Lajatang of speed is like tripple sword level damage and VS do really well with high attack speed weapons to boot.

There's a bug with weapons of speed that displays that message whether or not you're using a shield, regardless of your shield skill, and regardless of your weapon skill.

Thanks for the advice everybody! I indeed kept that lajatang and snagged a 15-rune victory while clearing my first ziggurat.
