The Tavern

So on abyss 3 I found a vault that has the abyssal rune, but then I was surrounded by spatial maelstroms and got pulled into another region of the abyss. The wiki states that one the rune was generated on the floor it isn't generated again. Well I can't seem to find it again so I have assumed that it was overwritten with other tiles as usual. The previous times I have found the rune I was able to pick it up with little problem. Should I search for stairs down to abyss 4 and hope the rune will show up there?

I've ascended with the orb once before, and ever since then I have been trying to beat the game with the full 15 runes. (I had one character that only had 3 more hell runes and the tome rune left, but got greedy in a ziggurat...)

I'm sure the rune will be generated again on A:3.

I believe the Abyss "resets" every time you are pulled to a new region, which means the the rune you left behind is no longer "on the floor". In any case, I'm sure the rune will continue to generate until you manage to actually pick it up. Don't go deeper unless you're very certain you can handle it.

Also, don't trust the wiki.

The only place where you can miss your chance of getting runes is in Pan. The game even warns you that you'll miss out on it.

This has literally just happened to me.
I blinked onto the rune, a spatial vortex moved onto the rune tile inbetween reading and my blink (i guess) and it shoved me one tile to the right from the rune, I moved back over to the rune but was immediately abyss teleport pulled away.
frustrating as all hell

Unless you've got a ton of necro skill, surely you have a better weapon than that. Although I'm not even sure if pain affects spatial maelstroms/vortices off the top of my head.

But yeah, that is a crappy situation.

"in between reading and blink" isn't a time that exists in crawl; once you've selected your blink target, you'll end up there unless there's an invisible monster there, in which case it devolves to a random blink. Spacial maelstroms and vortexes have distortion-branded melee tho, so there's a good chance one of them hit you and blinked you off the rune.

Like all non-living monsters, spacial maelstroms are unaffected by pain brand.
