Does Bolt of Draining bypass AC?

It seems logical?

Re: Does Bolt of Draining bypass AC?

Why? Most damage types in Crawl respect AC. Most bolts respect AC (no idea about Acid Bolt).

Re: Does Bolt of Draining bypass AC?

The drain brand's extra damage doesn't check AC...I don't think. I really don't know

Re: Does Bolt of Draining bypass AC?

A quick dive seems to imply that drain bolts check AC

Other negative energy spells don't; I'm nearly certain Pain and Agony ignore AC. Vampiric Draining too, I think, but I'm less sure about that.

Most bolts respect AC

Lightning Bolt and Shock only partially respect AC, I think. I'm unsure on this count, but I've seen a few claims that sources of electric damage partially ignore AC.

Well, they're also not bolts! And yeah, good point about LBolt, it halves AC... for some reason.

Most electric effects apply against halved or zeroed AC. Compare zap, ball lightning, orb of elec, chain lightning (all half AC); discharge ignores AC.

Re: Does Bolt of Draining bypass AC?

Yeah, I know it's a trait shared by a lot of elec spells, it's just not an obvious one - then again, it doesn't have to be obvious to work.
