How to take off rods when you're unarmed?

Whenever I use weapon and try to switch back to it after using blowgun/rods, I just click the weapon on the inventory to swap it. If I'm using UC and want to switch back after using blowgun I right-click on blowgun to get the item description page and press 'u' which makes my character unwield blowgun and revert to UC.

However, when I use rods 'u' key doesn't work. Is there a specific command to unwield items? I know 'w' makes me wield something, but I don't know how to take rods off without dropping it on the floor. And I believe there is a better way to switch between UC and rods.

w- unwield what you have in hands

' is used to swap between your 'a' and 'b' slots. If you assign the 'b' letter to your rod, and not a weapon to 'a', you should be back to unarmed hitting '
