Armour skill training up to

Hello,

I am trying to use heavier armour (than I intend to use) to train the skill up to the point that I reduce the penalties with the armor I want to use.

Am I right in assuming that the optimal is having armour skill equal or greater than double the evasion penalty ?

I'm playing a human fighter and trying to see if I can't balance out some very basic spell usage (level 1 spells) So having some elven armor is helping, and my int could use some work,
but where to use the heavy armor for trainnig the armor skill is a big tricky spot.
Thanks!

Don't do that. With armor skill, every point helps a little. And if you're not casting (or using unarmed combat), heavier armor is better as long as your strength supports it. But training your casting skills will help your casting much more than training armor skill. So if your goal is casting, train casting, not armor.

Strength should be greater than or equal to the armour's base EV penalty * 3.
