This was probably mentioned before, but *** piety under Ashenzari is much more valuable than advertised.

Also, a lack of resistances can be made up for with destructive power. A room filled with enemies that can poison your poor crawler /freeze /whatever is not impending death if you can obliterate >50% of the mobs with immolation/wands/spells.

I have come to the conclusion that the most important lesson for success at DCSS is: DON'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES! This is particularly true at low levels, and when playing an Octopode. Words to live by, which I don't...

Never take Zin on a spellcaster for a 3-rune game. You will get extremely frustrated about spell hunger and unless you get lucky with food shops, you'll find yourself training Spellcasting just to get your spells hungerless.

If you're heavily using Ozo's Refrigeration, you should not let a green very ugly thing hit you in Swamp, as getting heavily poisoned without the possibility to quaff gets you killed.

If you're going to dive Zot, don't magic map the levels because if you use auto-travel on the way back up it will take you through the unexplored areas. That very nearly got me killed.

This sounds suspiciously like a bug. Very weird if this is intentional.

I've tried it out right now, autotravel does go thorough unexplored areas.
