Doing Abyss when you have the do not regenerate when monsters are in your LOS mutation is a bad idea. Lost a good TeAE in Abyss:3. The ease of Abyss 1 and 2 lulled me into complacency, and then I blew through 7k gold in potion petition and all the tele trying to find an exit out over a long period of time. Abyssal stairs kept appearing under my feet as if the game was mocking me.

Your summons can start fighting each other, if one hits the other. If the hit one wins the fight, it'll then attack you too.

Mostly you should stack decks of escape. Blind drawing individual cards can be a life-saver in the early/mid-game, but it also comes with appreciable danger. In the later game, with plenty of piety, it's almost never a good idea.

Apparently, slimes don't increase MR when they join together. So if you can't avoid them merging, you can easily paralyse a titanic slime creature and kill them all at the same time with a few hits.

If you enter Lair:1 and are immediately greeted by Fannar and Harold... just read !Tele immedately. Not even the stairs can save you.

I made the error of going for the strairs right away; got Netted by Harold and died.

She was slowly killing off my gifted undead. Not that it mattered. Next level down in depths, two successive flocks of caustic shrikes killed everything. 5 vampire knights, 2 profane servitors, and a bone dragon and about 12 other gifted undead? Not a problem to caustic shrikes.

Think twice before taking Ru on a blaster, because her panic buttons have a high MP cost and chances are by the time you've figured out that you need her help you've used up most of your MP.

If you use Ru's Apocalypse as a panic button then you use it wrong. It is an opener. If you need to finish the fight, use Power Leap or Draw Out Power.

I never considered that! So in which situations is an Apocalypse opener worth the drain, and when isn't it?

If you have a large amount of monsters in your los that you know you can't deal without a couple of buffs or even with them, then it's the time: double pack of death yaks in Lair, Vaults: 5, open layout in Depths. If you're left at red drain after the fight you probably misused it.

Frankly, Ru in general and Apocalypse in particular feel really underwhelming to me. Apocalypse is a "become Qazlal" button that will draw the entire map to you immediately after you expanded your principal means of area control, while Ru's "you can only use one of three abilities per fight" concept is flat-out weak when you consider that other gods let you effortlessly cruise though 99% of the dungeon and use that piety for a whole army of simulacra/devas/berserk iron trolls in the rare fight that is actually threatening.

Maybe I'm just bummed that I completely cleared Pan on Hellcrawl, only to die in Vestibule because Apocalypse called down a panlord/fiend party on my face. Shouldn't have lignified, I guess.

Dith clouds block your line of sight, and, if you read magic mapping, they also block magic mapping for the area of your LOS that was blocked by the clouds. So you can have black squares with magic mapping, but only on the tiles: the minimap doesn't show them, instead shows as normal a fully magically mapped map.

You can stop pressure traps from working if you have the tile on which the grate would descend occupied by yourself while another creature walks on the plate.

It may well be that everybody else has known this forever, but I certainly didn't until today: When in Tree Form (scroll of lignification), you are immune to the effects of a Scroll of Torment. But your enemies are not...

Metabolic englaciation + Yara's violent unravelling is a good combo for crowd control.

Another thing I learned in my current VpTm of WJC game: As a vampire, you want to have a low-level summoning spell sticks to snakes, ensorcelled hibernation and a vampiric dagger. Now whenever you are going bloodless in a branch with low blood count (e.g. Spider), you can always heal up quickly by summoning something a snake, casting EH and stabbing it with the vamp dagger. Of course other vamp weapons work too if a dagger is not available.

...so I was using sticks to snakes with the EH + vamp dagger trick and assumed that any summoning spell would do. Then I tried it with summon small mammal and noticed that I did not get any healing from stabbing the summons. So I assume this is yet another difference between sticks to snakes and actual summoning spells...
