Do not wield unidentified weapons (especially if you know you wont use them due to your skills or weapon class/type) out of curiosity.

Elyvilon would disapprove of your worldly greed getting the better of you! However, she would approve of you pacifiying it when it's guaranteed to get killed off by its former comrades, and THEN pacifying them afterwards. Not that she particularly quibbles about it when you do something unbecoming of an ideal healer.

Actually, playing Felids for a while will do a great job of forcing you to stop wielding unidentified weapons.

Do you think Amulet of Stasis is enough to deal with Grinder?
Not always. In my game he quaffed potion of speed and then used a wand of fire twice to decrease my health from 45 (100%) to 8.
Fortunately there was a door between us so I closed it, quaffed 2 potions of curing and started casting Lighting Bolts instead of Shock (I quaffed brilliance potion before the fight to be able to cast Lightnings if fight goes wrong). Grinder even called a small abomination before death, really unusual

He read a scroll of unholy creation. I once died because a monster read one of those and the resulting abom HAPPENED to have speed 11.

With chaos-branded weapons, haste isn't the worst outcome for you. "So you're going to whack a greater mummy with a chaos weapon? Well, NOW THERE'S TWO!" Yeah it cloned the target. It can also heal the target to full HP. I sure hope Xom would find it funny when that happens.

Besides it does not help that we cannot see abomination parameters in the game. They change in very wide range.

I used chaos weapon today and got shafted while fighting a monster. I analyzed message log but still have no idea what happened. Perhaps the monster started fleeing and I automatically pursued it (I used Tab for the fight).

I think the general rule here is that if something weird happens when you're wielding a chaos weapon, it was probably the chaos weapon. Is there a list somewhere of all the effects of a chaos brand? The crawlwiki has a list but it doesn't say anything about shafts or moving stairs.

Not that I'm aware of, but the learndb entry mentions shafting (12) and high damage miscast effects (9). I only know about the stairs thing because I was looking at the code a few months ago when XuaXua was having some fun with the brand.

Vehumet won't help an Enchanter in the early to mid game. If you're not an extremely cautious player, don't plan on learning Conjurations from Vehumet or books you think you'll find. You might die before learning your first Conjurations spell. In a situation where another god might have helped.

ftfy.

Seriously, don't try to cast offensive spells as an Enchanter until Vaults at minimum. Get Hexes and Stabbing and Stealth up to at least 13 before worrying about anything else.

I suppose there's the stupidly niche case where an En wants Vehumet to give out the new Conj/Hex spells. A waste of a religion if an En actually does this, get a more suitable god.

While their roll is the most feared part of them, boulder beetles hit exactly as hard as stone giants in melee. That's harder than an elephant slug. Rushing into melee because you are afraid of the EV-ignoring 3d20 boulder rollup does not mean you are safe.

I once thought it was safe to melee a boulder beetle after it stopped rolling (with an XL 12(ish) Skald). How sadly wrong I was.

Don't throw away Amulet of Stasis to have extra space in inventory if you don't want to get this:

  Code:
178141 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 3 turns
178153 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 4 turns
178173 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 3 turns
178181 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 3 turns
178189 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 2 turns
178196 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 2 turns
178203 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 4 turns
178251 | Zig:23   | Paralysed by a giant eyeball for 2 turns

Though I threw away the amulet because I had Ice Storm but then I decided I should try spell-less zig...

I could swap for MR ring, but I did not realize the paralyzes lasted that many turns so I continued wearing 2 regeneration rings. Having 60+ AC and 35+ EV along with preservation cloak allowed to have at least 50% hp for the whole floor. Though it was dangerous indeed, some unlucky rolls could have killed me.
