Yeah, about that. Maybe it's wise to replace icon on a wand from that of "potion of healing" with "heal wounds"(bigger blue cross) - it will be more intuitive for new players.

Good idea.

If you have an Amulet of Stasis, a teleport trap makes a great stash location if you worship Jiyva.

Re: I think we learned an important lesson today.

Actually, it is extremely useful. When Jiyva does an occasional off-level item destruction, it chooses from one from ALL of the current floor trash in existence. So unless you're methodically cleansing each floor of the dungeon, there should be more than plenty of junk to distract Jiyva from nailing your stash often, if at all. I managed to collect seven runes (and then died going for more) while having that stash and if Jiyva destroyed anything from it, it was rare enough that I never noticed and managed to hang onto tons of books, scrolls, potions, and food.

I get that. And I'm stating that the stash was hit by off-level destruction so infrequently over the course of 92253 turns that I'm not ever sure it was ever touched, so therefore it is actually quite useful.

Reliable Summons and Silence make Tomb much, much easier. Gather army, cast Silence, go down stairs. Pull a couple of Mummies upstairs for Horrible Things (preferably red) to devour. Snigger at impotently gesturing, mouthing undead. Rest, repeat.

Unlike some Roguelikes, Crawl can happily kill even the most super-powered characters if you don't pay attention. Having a couple of beers and settling in to enjoy the last rune was not the smartest thing I ever did.

Also:

If you are in the habit of using a transformation that is much stronger than your normal shape, watch what you pick up. Remember your old carrying capacity, and stick to that.

Having the transformation end and suddenly and be burdened (or worse, overloaded) at the wrong time can be fatal :(

If you just used your last teleport scroll to get away from Mennas, you should probably go up a level and try to find more. No, don't search for the down stairs. He's much faster than you and with no way to escape him you will die. Just lost a promising DeBe that way. :( Somewhat related: if you try to berserk to reach an escape route, it will run out in two turns and you'll get minced.

Almost all Transmuter ghosts can spam Evaporate for Mephitic Clouds, have rPois, and have pretty good unarmed to boot. If you see one without rPois or clarity yourself, read that teleport scroll on turn 1.

In other news, I apologize for all the SETm ghosts on CDO

^___ This!

Turns out my couple dozens of draconian transmuters that didn't make it to level 7 are just waiting to puke all over my new characters.

Uniques and ghosts can spawn on the same level. Simple stuff.

It's very much worth it to stash your legendary/ornate deck of wonders for when you need that high power-level Helix card to remove bad mutations without removing all of them. Sure, there's still a chance you'd just lose a random mutation or you'd just gain another random mutation -- especially for ornate decks -- but there's still a high chance that you'd just lose that pesky mutation you just hate to have. And there's also a good chance that you'd gain another good mutation out of it.

Bottom-line: Spam plain -- and maybe ornate -- decks of wonders for experience. Save legendary decks for mutations.

I saw two ghosts on D5-D6, I doubt it was seven but you may be right. Still unusual things happen in the game. Maybe not anything as crazy as Boris on D6 but I have come across Obsidian Axes on D3 and even a titan in the orcish mines= P

I had two ultra powerful ghosts on zot 5 a game or so ago. One was a godlike necromancer and the other a lvl27 MdFi. Luckily, I just spammed dispel undead. Glad I was using another necromancer. Although that MdFi did manage to claw his way through half my undead army, including dragons, and deplete my all my mp. Really, really glad I was a necromancer.

Also, Francis can cast raise undead. Do NOT summon corpses from kiku in his LOS. :(

I think I'm one from five attempts on the Spiders' Nest... I've never died there but it's certainly really hard to clear at the levels I've been finding it, and mostly I end up having to run for it. The SEEE who cleared it nearly didn't, and assorted DDNes, SETms and SpArs have all been beaten back by that second big wave of spiders.

Back on-topic for just a second... today's lesson is that Felids make pretty interesting spellcasters! I rolled one at random and, after getting him (and, let us face it, a few more like him) killed, now I'm kinda hooked.

Crystal ball of energy is awesome with Spirit and maxed out Evocations. As long as you watch your MP, you practically have semi-reliable regenerating shield. Semi-reliable because there is still that really small chance that you drain you remaining MP or drain your Int. All in all, though the crystal ball has its uses.
