I had that one in Pan before. It was full of Fiends, Executioners, and, of course, the level's Pan Lord. I promptly left the level.

It's one thing to hear about an Orb of Fire and it's another to witness it's terrible majesty first hand.
Terrible and terrifying.

And if it says (Fair) for Summon Hydra, you'll summon a Balrug. As YASD as it was, it was worth it to have it work once.

Last one, pay attention and don't run towards the Electric Golem while being chased by a Orb of Fire.

Gourmand + sustenance = awesome spell spamming. Unfortunately cursed blunt weapons put a damper on to that. But Animate Skeleton saves the day until you find a scroll (which I have yet to do)

That you always carry around a Scroll of Teleport. I would kiss that scroll passionately if it wasn't in the middle of a death race.

I have one to contribute.

If you're switching to your Bow to kill off something dangerous in a hurry, quiver your +4 Arrows AFTER you switch to your Bow.

I was absolutely furious and discouraged when I fired off about 20 +4 Arrows against a lone Orc Wizard and not a single point of damage was dealt and it killed me off effortlessly. Then I realized the problem: I was wielding my Short Sword, not my Bow, and my +4 Arrows were equipped in my throwable weapons slot. No WONDER I couldn't land a single hit on it; in the heat of the moment I hurriedly quivered my Arrows but forgot to switch to my Bow before I did that. >_< Now I'm not mad at the game, instead I feel like a retard.

When in trouble and all out of magic, swing wands as your life depends on it.

And there's a reason why you have two rings of regeneration while you're being poisoned to death. Clarity of the mind helps the player as well as his character.

I've done something similar. I've equipped my bow/sling/whatever and then quickly quivered the appropriate ammo for the situation. Problem was, the ammo was on a capital letter like "E" but I'd hit "e" instead and end up throwing potions, scrolls, wands, rations, or something else.

UGH. UGH this HAPPENED to me yesterday. I had a Kobold Artificer with a +5 DAGGER OF DISRUPTION that was rocking the entire game, I was clearing the Hive, killed the Queen and got her stash of honeycombs and royal jellies, but I juuuust wanted to go back and clear the other half of Hive:1 that was still unexplored. I went upstairs and was immediately surrounded; even though I went downstairs again and tried to run away, there was a water segment and no crevices to hide in, and I had exhausted all my Healing potions and Teleport/Blink scrolls. In one last ditch attempt to survive, I played a card from my Deck of Escape. It came up as Swap. Not enough to save me. Game Over.

The death was not due to "stupidity" but sheer stubbornness of not leaving alone a perfectly mundane battle that was riskier than it was rewarding. You better believe it taught me something important.

Sticky Flame is not a joke, nor are any monsters who can utilize it against you. Don't expect to be able to heal out the damage, it will not work. Use Fire Resistance and a powerful attack that can remove the threat QUICKLY before you're at the *dead in 8 turns no matter what* point.

e.g. the Mottled Dragon on D:8 would have been better off ignored.

When visiting an ice cave on your current most promising character, do not read-identify a scroll hoping to acquire a fire wand to take out the ice statue. You will get teleport. You will be teleported into the vault. You will be surrounded, and you will not be able to get past the same ice statue you were trying to avoid.

Anyway, I imagine it's dandy with a high-level ass-kicking melee build. My problem is being impatient and doing it with a squishy SpEn when I really ought to know better.
