Does entering abyss via Lugonu's ability reduce your max hp?

Pretty much what the title says.

In-game description says 'the effort of even using the ability will leave your health and magic depleted.'

So... does this mean I get my max hp/max mp depleted just like using revification? And is it instant, or does it take time? Don't want to find if it takes a couple of turns to cast the ability.

It'll reduce the "current" hp (like death's door) and mp (so no, it won't reduce your max hp and mp), but never outright kill you (but if you can die to poison, for example).

For that reason it's often a good idea to do everything you can to heal yourself very quickly: cast regen, quaff curing (if you have plenty), etc.

It's instant and takes a good chunk of hp.
