So I got a Demon Whip of Draining

I was in Orc:3 and Oka gifted me a nice demon Whip of Draining. I also have 2 scrolls of brand weapon. I don't know whether to keep the draining brand or try and get a flat damage brand on it. Thoughts anyone?

I should probably also mention I'm using a +2 vampiric eveningstar at the moment.

It does not really matter, as that vamp eveningstar is your endgame weapon. By all means rebrand the whip, if you want to get a secondary weapon for draining immune monsters.

Drop the whip on the ground, keep crushing your enemies and healing at the same time.

If you do extended and vamp stops working, then you can use your scrolls to rebrand the eveningstar.

I'd brand the whip hoping to get antimagic.

Ok, that's good enough for me. I'll stick with the eveningstar, thanks guys.

You'll be hoping that for a long time.

Well, I'm an idiot. I was going to enchant up the eveningstar and ended up using the wrong scroll and rebranded it instead. It got the flaming brand, I then used the other brand scroll I had, hoping to get vamp back but it was freezing. So, the question is, do I still use the eveningstar, go with the whip or use the vamp morningstar I have back at my stash?

Well, freezing is pretty good, a freezing eveningstar does more damage by a hefty margin than a vamp morningstar, but vamp keeps your health up, so it's not as cut and dried as all that.

I'd keep both on hand, and use freezing eveningstar when I wanted to kill things fast, and the vamp morningstar when I was slogging through piles of things that did some damage to me (Naturally switching takes food, so don't do it super frequently.)

FWIW brand weapon can't grant antimagic (Or holy or distortion or pain) none of the special god-gift brands can be applied by branding scrolls.

At this point, I'd use the vamp morningstar against just about everything until zot:5.

He can't because he accidentally rebranded it.

He rebranded the eveningstar, not the morningstar.

Yeah, honestly, I'd probably still use the vamp morningstar. That will carry you to three runes. Morningstar is a good enough base weapon and vampiric is just that good as a brand. Use the eveningstar or d. whip in any areas that are filled with stuff unaffected by vamp brand, of course.

Hah yeah i've done that (accidental rebranding).

On the plus side, as mentioned, the morningstar is an ok base type, so use that vamp. And your eveningstar is now a perfect OoF smasher. I'd probably spread whatever ?EW you have/get across both of them.

That's what I call "a perfect OoF smasher". :P

  Code:
Inventory:

Hand weapons
 s - the +8 giant spiked club of Eternal War (weapon) {freeze, rC+ Dex+4}
(You acquired it on level 1 of the Lair of Beasts)

It has been specially enchanted to freeze those struck by it, causing extra
injury to most foes and up to half again as much damage against particularly
susceptible opponents. It can also slow down cold-blooded creatures.

   It affects your dexterity (+4).
   It protects you from cold.

I'd put them all on the vamp morningstar now, but try to save a few !might for oofs

only partially relevant to the current topic but vorpal actually does more damage against OoF than freezing right?

The bot says oofs have rC, so probably yes.

According to some quick fsims, yes, vorpal seems to do more damage to OoF than freezing, but they are very close. (I think freezing just barely edged out vorpal against OoFs until vorpal got a damage buff several versions ago, but I'm not 100% sure.)

Vorpal used to do exact same damage flaming/freezing did vs. rF+/rC+ targets respectively.
