Killer Klowns

I just lost a lvl 26 SpEn to one of these that had been berserked by a moth of wrath. I had been having a lot of trouble with them prior to that. My hexes backup was Iron Shot and they were pretty much laughing at these. What approaches can one take with these with hybrid characters? The other two times I've made it to Zot were with MiBe and with a GrEE, both of which had gone all in on melee or blaster.

Re: Killer Klowns

They have excellent magic resistance, but lack any elemental resistances, so it's not too hard to pile up the damage on them. Try to blast them at range before they can reach you.
If you aren't ready for it, their most dangerous attack flavour by far is cold. While rF+, rElec, rN+, and rPois are also highly recommended, facing them without at least rC+ is a gamble you should try to avoid.
Their constant blinking works against them if you have decent ranged attacks and a clear, open area to fight in. Use the time they spend running back into melee range with you to whittle away at their health from afar.

Re: Killer Klowns

I tried to run away, it was as fast as me when berserked and also my escape path got blocked by another monster. Yet another soo close death. I'm either dying in the very early game, or in the late stages of a 3-rune game. Both are quite frustrating.

Re: Killer Klowns

Yes, moths of wrath are very, very scary. Don't ever fight anything ever if there's also a moth of wrath on the screen. Just because they can barely damage you directly doesn't mean their special isn't one of the nastiest effects in Zot.

Re: Killer Klowns

^ Truth. Moths of Wrath (indirectly) have caused more Zot-deaths for me than Ancient Liches and Orbs of Fire combined, and I wouldn't be surprised if that were true of other players, as well.

You think berserk Klowns are bad, wait until you get a berserk Orb Guardian. They are obscene.

Berserk orb guardians are indeed scary.

Re: Killer Klowns

I learned a lesson from this, to respect moths of wrath (and to a lesser extent Killer Klowns). I just wish these lessons weren't coming after many, many hours fo gameplay. This is the second character in a row to die with two or more runes.

:)

For what it's worth, as long as "respect (Ancient) Liches and Orbs of Fire" are also in your lessons, you've learned enough to nab that orb.

Yeah, the last one was, "respect tormenters" and it had been summoned by a lich.

Hydras are harmless to you when you're wielding your +2 executioners axe of flaming, right? Well, you only have axes at 5.8, you're wearing CPA with 10 in armour, and that hydra's Lernean and berserk.
Lord of Lignification, we bow down to you.

...why aren't you bowing? Stop reading this and bow.

Sincere thanks for the engaging story. It's hard to tell one that concisely.
